Lerwick Port Spells out Strategy for Expansion

Lerwick Port Authority has detailed a series of objectives to meet its aim of running an efficient, cost-effective harbour, including continuing expansion of the infrastructure. The goals are featured in an interim Update produced ahead of publication of a new style annual report in Spring. Commenting on activity, Chairman Brian Anderson notes: “Lerwick reached peak level in 2013 and 2014, largely driven by oil & gas projects, both onshore and offshore. The Update also notes that the changing requirements of port users and the Shetland community have required the Authority to be flexible in its approach to managing and operating the harbour. Peak activity saw some capital infrastructure projects accelerated.

Anderson Appointed Chairman of Lerwick Port

Brian Anderson has been appointed Chairman of Lerwick Port Authority at the board’s Annual General Meeting in July. Formerly Deputy Chairman, Brian succeeds the late Harry Jamieson who was Chairman for the past four years until his untimely death in June Ronnie Gair has been appointed Deputy Chairman of the Authority. The Authority has decided to recruit a new Member to fill the vacancy on the Board from the business sector. The vacant position is for a two year term with the opportunity to stand for reappointment in 2017. Commenting on his appointment, Brian Anderson said “It is an honour to chair the Authority during these exciting times and the board remains forward looking.

Appointment Of Board Members Of Lerwick Port Authority

Three Members of Lerwick Port Authority have been re-appointed to the Board of the Authority. Three existing Business Ratepayer Members were the only applicants for the three positions. Brian Anderson, Harry Jamieson and Ronnie Gair all applied to serve a further three year term until July 2017. Their applications have been approved under the procedures set down by Government guidelines and the Authority’s own legislation. Lerwick Port Authority is a Trust Port which follows UK Government guidelines for Board membership. Bataan Arrives at NNSY for Maintenance Availability

Bataan Strike Group Returns to 2nd Fleet

Amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) pulls out of the Naval Station Rota Harbor. Bataan Expeditionary Strike Group conducted a port visit to Rota after conducting maritime operations in support of the global war on terrorism. U.S. The multipurpose amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) and elements of the Bataan Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) successfully entered the U.S. 2nd Fleet area of operations (AOO) on June 26, as the group sailed west across the Atlantic Ocean. Bataan ESG stayed busy in the 6th Fleet AOO for approximately three weeks before making the trip toward home. As the flagship of the ESG, Bataan accomplished both internal unit level goals and assignments from the fleet commander during that time.

SAFE Boat Dedication Scheduled for May 17

Secure Around Flotation Equipped (SAFE) Boat 256610 will be officially dedicated to use by United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Station Seward on May 17. The 10 a.m. ceremony at the Seward Boat Harbor south boat ramp in Alaska will includ music by the Air Force Band of the Pacific brass quintet and followed by orientation rides on the vessel and tours of the U. S. Coast Guard Cutter Mustang. The 25-ft. vessel, formerly assigned to Coast Guard Station Ketchikan, was delivered in August 2002 to AUXSTA Seward. The SAFE boat, like its sister vessel SAFE Boat 256611 assigned to the Auxiliary in Whittier, will primarily serve in a 40-mile radius from Seward, supporting the Coast Guard in search and rescue.
