SAM Electronics Equips Viking Grace
SAM Electronics, an L-3 company, has equipped Viking Line’s new 57,000-gt passenger ferry, Viking Grace, with a NACOS Platinum integrated navigation control system together with a Valmatic Platinum integrated automation system from its associate company, L-3 Valmarine. Built by STX Finland at its Turku yard and designed for cruising the shallow waters of the Finnish and Swedish archipelago, Viking Grace is the world’s largest LNG-fuelled ferry and the most environmentally friendly and energy-efficient vessel of its type. It is due to begin service this January and will comply with stringent 2015 Baltic regulations on gas emissions.

Martek Holds Navgard Training Sessions
UK-based Martek Marine has significantly expanded the geographic coverage of its Navgard Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm system (BNWAS) installer network, following two day-long training sessions. The training program was offered in the UK and Singapore to companies interested in installing and reselling Navgard. As a result Martek can now offer local BNWAS installation and/or reseller support in 13 different countries worldwide: China, Singapore, South Korea, India, the UAE, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Poland, France, Norway, Estonia and the UK. Martek recently opened new offices in Singapore, and plans to make its center there a fulcrum for further regional development.
Raytheon Anschütz wins IBS for Namibian Research Vessel
The German navigation system supplier Raytheon Anschütz was recently awarded a contract for the delivery of an integrated bridge and navigation system for a Fisheries Research Vessel, newbuilding 1378 at STX Finland. STX Finland has again selected Raytheon Anschütz to deliver the integrated bridge and navigation system, as well as the Dynamic Positioning System (DP) and a radio station according to GMDSS A3 for this advanced Fisheries Research Vessel. The 62 meter long vessel is being built at STX Finland Rauma shipyard and will be owned by the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources of the Republic of Namibia. New Bridge Nav Watch Alarm System
Uni-Safe Electronics’ new Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System BW-800 complies with IMO MSC 128(75) and the new IEC 62616 performance standard from February 2010. The company said it expected to be the first company in the world to present a Type Approval of a Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System complying with the new IEC 62616 performance standard. DNV has carried out the performance test with success and now we are only waiting for environmental test to be completed. The BW-800 system will be ready for sale ultimo April 2010.
