Moose Boats Delivers Two Patrol Vessels
Moose Boats, an aluminum boat designer and manufacturer in the San Francisco Bay Area announced the delivery of two patrol boats in late 2013. Moose Boats delivered a new M1-44 Catamaran Patrol Boat to Bridgeport Police Department on Long Island Sound. The M1-44 all-aluminum catamaran is powered by twin Cummins QSC8.3 600hp marine turbo diesel engines coupled via TwinDisc MG5075SC transmissions to twin Hamilton 322 water-jets with Hamilton Blue Arrow Controls. Cakewalk, Largest Yacht Ever Built in the U.S.
On August 8, Derecktor Shipyards launched the 281-ft motor yacht Cakewalk, the largest yacht (by volume) ever built in the U.S. The six deck, 2,998 gross ton vessel floated off Derecktor’s new 4000 ton dry-dock into the waters of Bridgeport harbor, after several years and many thousands of skilled labor hours. Cakewalk was designed by Tim Heywood Designs with Naval Architecture by Azure Naval Architecture. Interior design was by Dalton Designs, Inc. Literally dozens of subcontractors from engineering firms to security specialists participated in the project.
Crew Reunites for New Mission
The captain and officers who served on U.S. Navy Icebreaker U.S.S. Glacier, recently gathered for a reunion and to strategize for Glacier's restoration. Reunion participants included members from a crew of 300 servicemen and scientists, who, in 1961, successfully explored the most dangerous Antarctic region for a ship to enter: the Bellinghausen Sea and Thurston Island. Glacier's discoveries resutled in revisions to the world atlas. Glacier was transferred to the USCG in 1967 and operateed as USCGC Glacier until her decommissioning in 1986. USCG crewmembers are in the forefront of the restoriation of Glacier, currently moored near San Francisco. To conduct seagoing voyages for the U.S. Navy, USCG, Veterans groups and the general public.
Ferry Crew Rescues Three
A crew from the Bridgeport and Port Jefferson Steamboat Co. rescued three people who were clinging to their capsized boat and shaking in the 59-degree water. The men had been in the water for about 25 minutes when they were pulled aboard a lifeboat from the ferry, the Grand Republic. The mayday call from the boat went out, just as the ferry was preparing to depart from Bridgeport Harbor. Captain O’Neill said the men, employees of a local power plant taking water samples from the harbor, had a hand-held radio and they were able to establish contact fairly quickly. While Captain O’Neil stayed in radio contact to pinpoint the men’s location, the crew prepared the rescue boat and emergency first aid supplies.

The expansion of fast ferry building facilities has taken another gigantic step on the U.S. East Coast. In concert with a beehive of new capacity construction down south, Derecktor Shipyards recently announced that it has completed construction on a 45,000 sq. ft. main assembly building at its facility in Bridgeport, Conn., marking the completion of the second building on this 23-acre site, which is part of the development of the Bridgeport Regional Maritime Complex in Bridgeport Harbor. The new main assembly building consists of one 300 x 100 x 75 ft. (clear height) assembly bay and one 300 x 50 x 50 ft. (91.4 x 30.4 x 22.8 m) (clear height) assembly bay.
