Yang Ming Orders Five New Box Ships

Taiwanese container shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. announced it has ordered five liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel containerships from South Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. Taiwan’s Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation has ordered five 15,500 TEU LNG dual fuel container ships from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.The new vessels are scheduled to be delivered in 2026. They will be equipped with a high-pressure LNG dual fuel main engine. In addition, they will feature a ballast water treatment system, an advanced integrated system for navigational information and operation monitoring and a broadband maritime satellite system.These technologies are integral for collecting navigational big data and enhancing the safety of the vessels, says Yang Ming.

Communication Satellite Launched for Intelsat

Intelsat S.A., a provider of satellite services, with International Launch Services (ILS) announced that an ILS Proton vehicle successfully launched the Intelsat 22 satellite from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. After a 15 hour and 30 minute mission, the Breeze M successfully released the Intelsat 22 satellite, weighing 6199 kg, into supersynchronous transfer orbit (SSTO) at a 65,000 km apogee. Built by Boeing Satellite Systems, the satellite will provide C- and Ku-band capacity for media, government and network services customers in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Hughes Provides Broadband to Hercules Offshore Fleet

Hercules Offshore has invested in a satellite communications system from Hughes Network Systems, LLC. Hughes and Environmental Safety Systems International Corporation (ESSI) are equipping the entire Hercules Offshore fleet of Class 120 to Class 230 liftboats in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, with Hughes satellite-based broadband maritime services. These liftboats, commonly referred to as the workhorse of the offshore industry, are reliable, versatile, and self-contained. They provide a cost-effective and efficient alternative to traditional pipelay/derrick vessels. With their large, open deck areas, they are self-propelling and self-elevating. The fleet provides a work platform for a wide range of services from coiled tubing and wireline operations to well intervention.

Gulf Offshore Selects CapRock VSAT

CapRock Communications announced a three-year contract with Gulf Offshore – a wholly owned subsidiary of GulfMark Offshore Inc. – to deploy its broadband maritime service, SeaAccess Communications, onboard its fleet operating in the North Sea and along the coast of Africa. SeaAccess’ VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) services will enable GulfMark to extend its corporate IT network and applications to its vessels and provide onboard crew morale services. KVH’s Mini-VSAT Broadband Gov’t Approval

KVH Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI) announced that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has granted permanent “Earth Station onboard – Vessel” or ESV license authority for KVH’s mini-VSAT Broadband satellite communications service. This authority officially approves the spread spectrum mini-VSAT Broadband service and 24-inch diameter TracPhone V7 antenna as meeting the FCC’s new regulations for broadband maritime services. Prior to receiving this permanent license, the KVH mini-VSAT Broadband service has operated in U.S. waters under an FCC Special Temporary Authority (STA) since September 2007, while also supporting mariners worldwide.

Inmarsat Accelerates into Hand-held Satphone Market

Inmarsat and ACeS International Limited (ACeS) announced a collaboration to offer low-cost hand-held and fixed voice services, initially in the Asian market with extended coverage expected in early 2007 by combining satellite resources. Under the agreement, Inmarsat will assume responsibility for satellite and network operations, wholesale service provision, as well as product and service development. ACeS will focus on distribution of MSS products in the Asian land and maritime markets and will become a distributor of Inmarsat’s BGAN services. using the existing Inmarsat-4 satellite covering Asia and further intends to deploy a fullyglobal service within two years.

Telenor Acquires Norse Technology Sat Business

Telenor Satellite Services, a subsidiary of Telenor of Norway, has purchased the satellite communications activities of Norse Technology AS and additionally has acquired the majority of stock in Norwegian-based Norse Electronics AS. With this purchase, Telenor Satellite Services intends to re-establish Norse Electronics AS as the leading integrator of communications services for the Oil & Offshore industry. Marlink Signs Multiple Broadband Maritime Agreements

Marlink said that its office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, initiated the sales of 10 maritime broadband communications systems during the first half of 2006. Marlink Dubai’s most recent agreement is a three-year pact with CCC Underwater for a broadband very small aperture terminal (VSAT) system aboard the CCC Pioneer. The vessel is designed for offshore construction including pipe and cable laying and will be operating in waters throughout the Middle East and off the coast of India. The new VSAT system provides communications that will enable the CCC Pioneer to increase operations efficiency while at sea as well as give the crew an effective means of staying in touch with family and friends at home. Installation of the system is scheduled for September.

Vector Maritime Announce Satcom Partnership Agreements

Vector Maritime Services has signed a partnership agreement with France Telecom for the provision of all Inmarsat Services including Inmarsat A, B, C, mM and Fleet. “We selected France Telecom because of their reputation for quality and working with their partners to provide the best customer service” said Paul Ashton. At the same time Vector have announced a partnership agreement with Broadband Maritime for the provision of VSAT services to ships. Broadband Maritime provide a global VSAT service for a low all-inclusive flat rate per month. Vector are also pleased to welcome Claire Mercer as Director of Airtime Sales, responsible for both Inmarsat and VSAT services. Claire’s career includes Nera and Marconi was previously with Xantic as Airtime Sales Manager.
