Bureau Veritas Expands Remote Inspection Capabilities

Classification society Bureau Veritas (BV) said it can now provide owners and operators with new ways to survey their ships through Remote Inspection Techniques operated by BV’s own surveyors in France. The company said it aims to leverage digital technologies to deliver its inspection services more safely and efficiently.BV’s key objective with the use of RIT is to limit the use of costly and dangerous means of access, by replacing them with safer and more efficient technologies during the structural inspection of the hull.

Bureau Veritas Expands Marine and Offshore Services in N. America

Testing, inspection and verification services firm Bureau Veritas (BV) said it has taken a number of steps to broaden and deepen its marine and offshore services in North America.The opening of a new remote survey center in Miami is the latest step in the delivery of digital services across the Bureau Veritas network, providing yet further global coverage for remote surveys.Florida-based Tropical Shipping’s fleet has now benefited from remote survey services on three of its vessels sailing in the Caribbean trades.

BV to Class LNG Carrier

The ships have two key innovations. cargo gas will be carried in the new GTT CS1 membrane system. such engines. machinery plant. needed to develop the cost-effective CS1 containment system. BV concept approval in 2002. The dual fuel diesel electric propulsion system offers several advantages. space in the hull. conventional turbine installations. are now in short supply. taken off line and maintained on passage. cutting the risk of a power failure. and NO96 membrane systems. and a cost reduction of 15 per cent compared to existing systems.

BV Launches LNG CAP

Bureau Veritas launched a unique Condition Assessment Program for LNG carriers. The CAP works in a similar way to existing Harmonized CAP programs for oil tankers, but has special requirements unique to LNG carriers. Speaking at the SIGTTO annual meeting in San Francisco today, Bruno Dabouis, commercial manager of BV said, "The LNG market is opening up and there are signs that a spot market for LNG carriers may further develop. That means charterers need to be able to demonstrate that they have taken special care when chartering in older vessels, a new phenomenon in the LNG market. French Snag LNG Order

In February Gaz de France ordered a 74,000 cu. m. LNG carrier from Chantiers de l'Atlantique, with an option for a second vessel. The French have maintained a strong hold on this high-tech, high-value ship type despite the general migration of gas ship orders to the Far East. In particular, Bureau Veritas helped develop the concepts for the vessels, and developed unique new rules to allow the yard and owners to break new technological frontiers.
