ACP Adopts Green Building Policy

The ACP guideline launches environmentally sustainable practices. The Panama Canal will implement more sound “Green Building” practices with regards to future constructions in order to improve compatibility with the environment. Green Construction, also known as Sustainable Building, refers to designing building structures using processes and materials that are environmentally responsible and efficient during the life cycle of the building. This concept includes the process from design and construction to operation, maintenance, renovation and demolition of buildings.

LQT Delivers Accommodation Facility and Helideck in Gulf of Mexico

LQT Industries , a full-service provider of accommodation facilities, design-build construction services, and support services to the oil and gas industry, has engineered and built a new series of aluminum accommodation buildings that will be utilized by a major oil and gas operator on a platform in the Gulf of Mexico. The buildings are 10’W x 35’L and weigh only 16,000 pounds. These newly built buildings, along with one of LQT’s modular helidecks which will be placed on top of the buildings, have been allocated for a major oil and gas operator and commissioned on a platform in the Gulf of Mexico in September 2014. The fleet expansion adds another option to their wide variety of buildings to give customers more flexibility to choose the optimum accommodation package for their project.

NAVFAC Awards Contract - Oil Platform Modifications

On Sept. 30, Naval Facilities Engineering Command Europe and Southwest Asia (NAVFAC EURSWA) awarded an $11.5 million contract modification for the Al Basrah (ABOT) and Khawr Al Amaya Oil Terminal (KAAOT) transfer platforms, located in the off the Iraqi shoreline. Work will include constructing a communications tower and installing generators on ABOT, as well as providing crane services and making structural repairs. Follow-on work early in FY09 will construct Containerized Living Units (CLUs) on ABOT to improve overall living conditions. URS-IAP LLC, of , was awarded a Design-Build Construction Modification 05 to task order N62470-06-D-6009-0003 of the Global Contingency Construction (GCC) contract for the Design-Build of Repairs and Improvements to ABOT and KAAOT.

Aker Yards to Build Construction Vessel

Aker Yards has entered into a contract with Farstad Shipping ASA for the building of one Construction Vessel with a value of approx $135m. Aker Yards, Langsten is to build a 398 x 85 ft. construction vessel for Farstad, based on the Rolls-Royce design; UT 761 CD. The Vessel is scheduled for delivery from Aker Yards, Langsten in the fourth quarter of 2008. The vessel will after delivery enter into a long term charter with Saipem UK Ltd. The vessel is specially designed for plough duties in connection with pipe laying of oil and gas pipes offshore. The vessel will have a Bollard Pull of more then 350 tons, and all equipment necessary to support the most challenging operations and environments world wide.

Aker to Build Construction Vessel for DOF

Aker Yards has signed a contract with DOF ASA, through its subsidiary DOFCON ASA, for the building of a large construction vessel. The value of the contract is approximately $114.4m. The vessel will be built by Aker Yards in Brazil, with planned delivery May 2009. This large construction vessel is an Aker Yards design, called Aker OSCV 06 and is the fourth vessel of this design under construction to DOF. The vessel is 452.8 ft. and will be equipped with a 250 tons offshore crane. It will have DP Class 3.

Acergy Charters New Build Construction Ship

Acergy announced that it has entered into an agreement with DOFCON ASA for the charter of the Skandi Acergy, a new build heavy construction ship. The 8-year charter will commence upon delivery, which is scheduled for the second quarter of 2008. Construction is taking place at the Aker Søviknes Yard in Norway and, once complete, the ship will be a class leader amongst heavy construction ships. The new ship will be 153 metres in length, will have a cargo deck area of 2,100 m2 and will be fitted with a heave compensated crane with 400 metric tonne lift capability, a 3,000 tonne under deck carousel and have Class 3 dynamic positioning. Aker Yards to Build Construction Vessel

Aker Yards has signed a contract with DOF ASA, through its subsidiary DOFCON ASA, for the building of a Construction Vessel. The value of the contract is approximately $80.4m. The vessel will be delivered by Aker Yards, Aukra in June 2009. This Construction Vessel is of Aker Yards design, called Aker OSCV 03 and is the second vessel of this design under construction for DOF. The vessel is 120 meters long and will be equipped with a large offshore crane. It will have DP Class 3.

Technip Wins Substantial Norway Offshore Contract

Technip wins a Statoil contract for fabrication, installation & tie-ins of flowlines for the Gullfaks South field development. The Gullfaks South field development is in the northern part of the North Sea, located approximately 190 kilometers northwest of Bergen, Norway, at water depths between 130 and 220 meters. The Gullfaks South project development will contribute to Statoil’s extensive initiatives on increased oil recovery and consists of two manifolds(2) tied back to the existing Gullfaks South infrastructure by 20 kilometers of new flowlines. This development will be based on the use of direct electrical heating and pipe-in-pipe flowline technology.

ECOSLOPS an innovative technology company that upgrades ship-generated hydrocarbon residues (slops) into valuable distillates and light bitumen, has announced the signing of a long-term XFO (light bitumen) supply contract with SOPREMA. SOPREMA is the European leader in the bituminous membrane market for the isolation industry and had a 2.13 bn€ turnover in 2015 with more than 6,260 employees in 40 plants. Cortland Expands Anacortes Facility

US cable, rope and umbilical specialist Cortland has expanded its Washington facility in Anacortes. The expansion focus is on the creation of upgraded sales, engineering and administrative spaces. The Anacortes expansion will add an additional 4,800 square feet to the facility, bringing the total square footage to over 82,000. The new area will include 13 new offices, 2 conference rooms, a staff break room and create nearly 3,000 square feet of manufacturing space where the administrative offices are currently located.

APT Commits to Build Two New Product Tankships in US

American Petroleum Tankers (APT) affiliate intends to order the new ships from NASSCO Shipyared, San Diego. An affiliate of American Petroleum Tankers Parent LLC (“APT”), a company majority owned by funds managed by Blackstone on behalf of its investors, announce its commitment to build two new state-of-the-art tanker vessels at the National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO) shipyard in San Diego. The commitment to build is contingent upon approval of a $340 million Title XI loan guarantee from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Maritime Administration (“MarAd”) that would be used to refinance APT’s existing five tankers. Should construction of the vessels proceed, they will be the first new product tankers to be ordered in the U.S. in two years.

North Sea Atlantic Joins the Technip fleet

On Saturday July 26, 2014, a ceremony was held in Bergen to officially name the latest new subsea construction vessel to join the Technip fleet, the North Sea Atlantic. More than 200 guests from shipowner North Sea Shipping, ship charterer Technip and supply chain partners, gathered to attend the ceremony held at the NorYards BMV AS shipyard (previously Bergen Group) in Laksevåg, Bergen, Norway. The event was hosted by North Sea Shipping CEO, Hallvard Klepsvik, and his wife, Sigrid Anne Våge, acted as the vessel godmother. Technip announced in 2012 that it had signed a long term charter agreement with North Sea Shipping for an advanced new build construction vessel.

UK Jubilee Convoy Led by LR Classed Royal Barge

The recently constructed royal row barge led the UK’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations this weekend, heading a flotilla of ships along the River Thames. The barge was built in London and supervised by Lloyd’s Register’s Southampton-based UKI Marine Operations Team. Keith Vernon, LR’s Principal Specialist, said: “While the vessel will not be classed it will be certificated as an MCA Class V Passenger Vessel. “It has been a very interesting project because of the unique character of the project. Our initial concerns centred around LR’s limited experience of wood boat-building construction.

Pride International Dedicates Drillship

Pride International, Inc. (NYSE: PDE) announced the dedication of the second of its four new deepwater drillships under construction by Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea, the Deep Ocean Clarion. The company is expected to take delivery of the rig in September 2010, followed by the mobilization of the rig to the U.S. Gulf of Mexico where it is expected to commence operations in the first quarter of 2011 under a five year contract with BP. In a shipyard ceremony, Louis A. Raspino, President and Chief Executive Officer of Pride International, Inc., commented, "The addition of the Deep Ocean Clarion to our fleet further strengthens Pride's presence in the deepwater. These drillships represent the best, most technologically advanced generation of rigs.

Ceona Charters New Build Deepwater Flexlay Vessel

Ceona has placed a contract for the charter of a high spec new build construction support vessel with GC Rieber Shipping. The vessel will be contracted exclusively to Ceona for an initial period of five years with the option of up to 5 additional years. The high-capacity vessel is designed for operations in harsh conditions and deep waters, with a length of 130 meters and a 25 meter beam. The vessel will be built to the highest standard for dynamic positioning, DP-3, and is equipped with a 250t AHC offshore crane.

LNG Carrier Launched by IZAR Sestao Yard

Iñigo Tapias, the new 138,000 cu. m. liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier launched on January 29 by Izar’s Sestao yard in Bilbao, is a significant ship for many reasons, both technical and business. The 284.4 m, 19.5 knot ship embodies the hopes of a shipbuilding nation that is seeking to re-establish its presence in the LNG niche that it has not occupied for more than three decades, as the production of gas ships generally lays in the hands of Far East builders today. The ship is unique in many respects – not the least in that it was launched into the water, sliding down its building way in the traditional manner to great fanfare in the presence of thousands of guests, both local residents and VIPs from the shipping world.

Marina In San Francisco Upgrades Docks

Located in the heart of San Mateo County, Oyster Point Marina, offers San Francisco boaters direct access to the bay. The City owned marina recently completed replacement of piers 8 and 11. Bellingham Marine, world renowned marina builder, was contracted to perform as the general contractor. Oyster Point’s existing 20 plus year old glu-lam, timber system was replaced with Bellingham Marine’s concrete floating docks fitted with upgraded utilities and accessories. Upgrades were made to the marina to provide improved moorage for boaters in the San Francisco Bay area.
