UK Reveals the Names of Its New Inspiration Class Warships

The names of the British Royal Navy's five next-generation Type-31 frigates have been announced by the First Sea Lord, Admiral Tony Radakin. Approved by HM The Queen, the vessels will be named HMS Active, HMS Bulldog, HMS Campbeltown, HMS Formidable and HMS Venturer.Grouped together as the Inspiration Class, the names of the new vessels are drawn from former warships and submarines whose missions and history will inspire Royal Navy operations. The names also represent the Royal Navy’s future vision: HMS Active signifies the forward deployment of Royal Navy ships to protect U.K.

Southampton Marine Services Delivers Svitzer Merlin

U.K. shipbuilder Southampton Marine Services said it has delivered a newly constructed 20.45-meter multipurpose harbor workboat to Svitzer. The new vessel, named Svitzer Merlin, is the forerunner in Southampton Marine Services’ new Bulldog workboats range. A Bulldog 20, the workboat is a repeat Svitzer order for Southampton Marine Services, being similar to the Middlesbrough-based Svitzer Leven. Svitzer Merlin takes her place in the Svitzer fleet being based at Milford Haven, performing general port collection work and recycling of waste from ships at the port.

2 Damen Tugs for KOTUG’s European Harbor Towage

Damen Shipyards Group delivered two sister tugs ATD 2412 ‘ZP Bison’ and ‘ZP Bear’ to strengthen KOTUG’s European Harbour Towage. On April 8th 2015, the sister tugs were handed over by designer and builder Damen to her owner Elisabeth Ltd in order to operate for KOTUG. ZP Bison will operate in the Port of Bremerhaven and ZP Bear on the River Thames in London. Damen Services arranged the transport from Vietnam to Rotterdam, where they handed over the tugs in a turnkey operation. After their arrival the tugs have been equipped and prepared to commence their towage activities in Bremerhaven and on the River Thames from April 17th, 2015.

CGC Alex Haley Returns from 70-day Bering Sea Patrol

The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Alex Haley returned to Kodiak Sunday following a successful 70-day deployment patrolling more than 10,800 miles throughout the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands. Alex Haley, known as the “Bulldog of the Bering,” departed Kodiak on Dec. 1, 2014, and spent the last 70 days conducting law enforcement and community outreach operations in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands. During the deployment, Alex Haley’s crew performed 41 at sea domestic fisheries enforcement boardings and covered more than 5,000 square miles in search efforts for the sunken Korean fishing vessel 501 Oryong. The Alex Haley crew visited Akutan, Alaska, on Dec. 23, 2014. The crew disembarked Santa who delivered warm winter clothes collected by the crew and the base chapel to the community.

Kirby Christens ATB in New Orleans

Inland and coastal giant christens ATB duo Jason E. Duttinger and Winna Wilson in an October New Orleans ceremony. The crew of the Jason E. Duttinger took a break from hauling coal between Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, and Florida on Oct. 30 as Kirby Corp. of Houston christened the articulated tug-and-barge unit in New Orleans at the dock of the Hilton Riverside Hotel. Both units were named in honor of two special individuals. Jason Duttinger was a senior transportation specialist at North Carolina-based Duke Energy when he died of cancer in 2011.

KOTUG Sisters Named in Hamburg

The new build “ZP Bulldog” and her sister tug “ZP Boxer” christened by family of the two General Managers of Schleppreederei KOTUG GmbH. Both ceremonies were held at the tug boat station in the Port of Hamburg with shareholders, members of the board and employees and their family in attendance. The new buildings belong to the “Azimuth Tractor Drive 24/ 12 Twin Fin” series from Damen Shipyards and show with just 24 meter l.o.a. and 12 meter breadth a distinctive compact design. With two fore propulsion units and two “Twin Fins”, both tug boats demonstrate high course stability.

RotorTug RT Ambition Arrives in Bremerhaven

On November 16 KOTUG´s new build RotorTug RT Ambition arrived in Bremerhaven. The tug left ASL Singapore Shipyard on September 22, 2012 and sailed under own power. RT Ambition measures 32 x 12 m, with a installed power totaling 6,456 BHP and a bollard pull of 84 tons. Damen Delivers Two Azimuth Tractor Drive Tugs 2412 to Kotug

Kotug  International will shortly be putting two new Damen Azimuth Tractor Drive Tugs 2412 into operation into the German Port of Hamburg. These tugs were ordered by Elisabeth Ltd in Malta and are being chartered by the Kotug  Group. Kotug  is a fast growing towage company expanding its innovative services to ports and terminals in Europe (Rotterdam, Hamburg, Bremerhaven), West-Africa and Australia. Recently Kotug  started towage activities in the new German deep sea port Wilhelmshaven.

Washburn & Doughty Associates, Inc. of East Boothbay, Maine delivered Bulldog, a 98 x 37 ft., 6,700 hp, Z Drive firefighting tug, to Crescent Towing of New Orleans, La. Bulldog provides ship-assist and escort services for LNG tankers at the Elba Island LNG re-gasification terminal in Savannah, Ga. Bulldog is a new Washburn & Doughty in-house design and the first tug built at the yard for Crescent Towing. Washburn & Doughty's Chief Naval Architect and Vice President, Bruce Washburn, drew on the company's experience designing and building Z-Drive Tugs for ship docking and LNG operations while designing the 98-ft.
