LR Awards AIP for Rotoboost’s Pre-combustion Carbon Capture System

Classification society Lloyd’s Register (LR) said it has awarded approval in principle (AIP) to Rotoboost, a Nordic hydrogen production company, for its pre-combustion Carbon Capture System (CCS) Rotobox. Rotobox uses thermocatalytic decomposition process (TCD) onboard marine vessels, where part of the natural gas fuel supply is converted into hydrogen and graphite with a liquid catalyst.The TCD process significantly reduces CO2 emissions, particulate matter and methane slip by producing hydrogen while capturing carbon in its solid form.

New Loading Equipment Delivered to Port Milwaukee

New loading equipment was recently delivered to Port Milwaukee for The DeLong Co., Inc. agricultural maritime export facility.The Made in America ship loader traveled more than 1,500 miles by barge from New Orleans, up the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers to Jones Island. Port of Virginia Secures Funding for Channel Deepening

The Port of Virginia and the US Army Corps of Engineers today signed the agreement committing the federal government to begin its financial investment in the construction effort to widen and deepen the commercial shipping channels and Norfolk Harbor.With a group of federal and state officials in attendance, Virginia Port Authority CEO Stephen A. Edwards and Col. Brian P. Hallberg, the US Army Corps of Engineers’ Norfolk District commander, signed the Project Partnership Agreement.

Harvey Gulf Operates First Carbon Neutral PSV

Marine Concept Design: Ocean "Plastic Harvester" Completes Prototype Testing

Our Cleaner Planet, a non-profit startup with an 'innovative technique to remove plastics from our oceans', said it has completed prototype testing of its first plastic harvester and is now ready to move forward with larger unit testing. Iran's Oil Storage Almost Full as Sanctions and Pandemic Weigh

Scrubbers Installed on Two NCL Vessels

Exhaust gas cleaning systems, also known as scrubbers, have been installed on two Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) ships in order to reduce air emissions. NCL says it was the first cruise line to commit to retrofitting six vessels with scrubbers and has now exceeded that commitment with a total of eight ships, including the latest two, Norwegian Sun and Norwegian Jade. The ships’ new lightweight in-line scrubbers are a hybrid technology developed by Yara Marine Technologies that are able to operate in open loop, closed loop and closed loop with bleed off mode.

Avance Gas Expects Weak 2017, Recovery from 2018

Shipping firm Avance Gas Holding , which transports liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), expects freight rates for its vessels to remain weak in 2017 despite an improvement in the last two weeks, the Oslo-listed firm said. As Market Sours, LPG Tankers Anchor off Singapore

Record U.S. LPG exports to Asia flip market into a glut. Last year, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supplied to Asia was being snapped up by petrochemical makers. Now, after a flood of U.S. exports into the region, the market is awash with LPG and supplies are being stored in ships anchored off Singapore. At least four Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs) are parked off Singapore, including the "BW Carina" and "Berge Nantong", both of which have been there for at least a week, shipping data carried on Thomson Reuters Eikon showed. Some of the vessels are expected to stay until September, traders said. Middle East supply is also high with at least four other vessels…

Norwegian Jewel Retrofitted with Gas Scrubbers

An Exhaust Gas Scrubber system has been retrofitted on cruise ship Norwegian Jewel to reduce the vessel’s air emissions and environmental footprint. Norwegian Cruise Line said it is the first cruise line to retrofit a vessel while it is in service with an Exhaust Gas Scrubber Hybrid system. Norwegian Jewel’s new lightweight in-line scrubbers are a hybrid technology developed by Yara Marine Technologies that are able to operate in dry mode, open loop and closed loop. Five scrubbers were installed, one per engine, covering the whole propulsion system.

The world's first very large ethane carrier (VLEC), Ethane Crystal, has been delivered to India’s Reliance Industries Ltd. by South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), representing a significant milestone for the gas shipping industry. The vessel is now the planet’s largest, purpose-built ethane carrier – comparable in size to today’s very large gas carriers (VLGC) – and with its 87,000 cbm cargo carrying capacity, represents a significant step up from the largest ethane carriers delivered to date: the 37,000 cbm Navigator Aurora and Navigator Eclipse.
