Rhenus-Arkon-Shipinvest Orders 4 Vessels

German shipping company Rhenus-Arkon-Shipinvest has placed orders for the first four environmentally-friendly vessels known as Hanse Eco Short Sea Coasters.The short sea bulkers are expected to be delivered during the second half of 2021, with the construction work scheduled to begin in February 2020.The vessels are based on the latest developments related to environmental protection, digitization and design.The ‘Hanse Eco’ fleet is the result of an initiative launched by Torsten Westphal, one of the founding members of Arkon Shipping. Carnival Opens High-tech Training Center

Carnival Corporation & plc today announced the official opening of its Arison Maritime Center, a world-class facility dedicated to providing safety training for its bridge and engineering officers responsible for the navigation and operation of the company’s fleet of cruise ships. Located in Almere, Netherlands just outside Amsterdam, the new 75-million-euro facility features some of industry’s most advanced simulators and training equipment to provide annual training to more than 6,500 bridge and engineering officers from Carnival’s 10 global cruise line brands.

Wireless Crane Camera System: BlokCam

A new wireless crane camera system called BlokCam delivers live video from the hook block to the operator in the cabin. Peel Ports, owners and operators of the Port of Liverpool, has achieved a major milestone in its multi-million investment programme to transform the port into Europe’s first semi-automated container terminal. Carnival Orders Transas Simulators for CSMART

Transas and the Center for Simulator and Maritime Training (CSMART), the training facility for Carnival Corporation & plc, signed a multimillion euro contract to utilize Transas' simulators at CSMART's new facility, scheduled to open in summer 2016 in Almere, just outside Amsterdam. Carnival Corporation has operated its current CSMART training facility in Almere since 2009. The new CSMART facility will be three times larger than the existing facility, with capacity for providing annual training for 6,500 deck and engineering officers.

Moog Supplies Camera System for WHOI Research Vessel

Moog Inc. Space and Defense Group has supplied the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) with a new, rugged camera system for launch and recovery of the Alvin submarine aboard the research vessel Atlantis II. The U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command mandates that the crew of Atlantis II be able to see the latch pin, which is part of the launch and recovery system (LARS) for use with Alvin.
