Double-Ended Cat Launched in Brazil

Rodriquez Cantieri Navali do Brasil SpA, the Brazilian yard of the Rodriquez Group, on June 13 launched the first of seven double ended catamarans under construction for Barcas SA in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. This catamaran will operate on the Rio de Janeiro – Niteroi route. The vessel is completely made in aluminum and has a maximum capacity of 1,200 passengers, with 900 seated and 300 standing. The catamaran is equipped with twin pod type propulsors with two variable pitch propellers with 360° rotation to maximize maneuverability and at the same time reach a speed of 18 knots, suitable for the three mile route. The catamaran is scheduled for delivery in July.

Rodriquez Cantieri Navali, Sultanate of Oman Sign Contract

Rodriquez Cantieri Navali on April 11 signed a contract for the supply of five catamarans for the Sultanate of Oman. Rodriquez Cantieri Navali will build five fast ferries inside the yards of Messina and the times of realization and delivery are foreseen by the end of 2008. The ships will be of two different types to be used by the client for two different purposes. Three ships (South vessel), will carry 100 passengers, 10 crew units and 22 vehicles at a maximum speed of 41 knots, while the other two ones (Rescue vessel), will carry up to 200 rescued people at a maximum speed of 40 knots. Both the types will have a length of 52 meters and will be completely built in aluminum with the same propulsion. Each ship will have four engines MTU 16V4000 M71 with a power of 2465 Kw each.

Rodriquez Cantieri Navali Wins $57M, 10 Boat Contract

Rodriquez Cantieri Navali SpA won an approximate $57 million contract to build seven 147.6 ft. (45 m) double-ended Catamarans (type HC 18) and three 92 ft. (28 m) Catamarans (type MC 25) from Barcas S.A. in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The contract was signed on May 4, and construction of the boats will begin in June 2001, with delivery of the first vessels scheduled for approximately 12 months later. These vessels, designed and engineered by Rodriquez, are an extension of the CityCat range of catamarans and will serve the city of Rio de Janeiro and its suburbs. The 45-m HC 18, built entirely out of aluminium, will connect downtown Rio with the city of Niteroi, a Route of only three nautical miles but carrying approximately 22 million passengers per year.

GE Capital Invests In Rodriquez Cantieri Navali Spa

Rodriquez Cantieri Navali SpA and GE Capital, a wholly owned subsidiary of the General Electric Group (GE), have entered into a partnership. Following several months of negotiations GE Capital underwrote an increase in the share capital of Rodriquez. GE Capital's shareholding in the Shipyard is in the range of 26 to 40 percent. The agreement was announced by Gianni Morace, managing director of Rodriquez, during the shareholder's meeting in Messina, Italy - whose objective is to form an IPO in the near future. In addition to GE Capital, the other principal shareholders in Rodriquez are M.R.S. Sviluppo Srl, Ustica Lines SpA and Comecam Srl - all of who participated in a management buyout of the yard in 1997.

Holland America Hires Fincantieri For Two Ships

Holland America Line has hired Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri Cantieri Navali SpA to build two new 84,000-ton cruise ships for about $400 million each. The ships are expected to sail in the fall of 2002 and summer of 2003, and Holland America has reserved the right to order up to three sister ships for delivery from 2003 to 2005. The 1,800-passenger vessels will feature exterior elevators that provide guests with panoramic sea views, large cabins, art collections, spa facilities and cabaret lounges.

Carnival Victory Floated Out In Italy

Carnival Cruise Lines new 102,000-gt cruise ship Carnival Victory was floated out of the shipyard last Wednesday at shipbuilder Fincantieri Cantieri Navali. The ship is 272 m long and has 1,379 passenger cabins. It cost between $400-500 million.

MAN Propulsion Package for New Italian RoRo

Italian Visemar's new RoRo (construction at Cantiere Navale Visentini yard, near Venice) will be powered by twin MAN engines. The vessel will be powered by a complete MAN propulsion package featuring 2 × 9L32/44CR medium-speed engines., which each develop 5,040 kW at 750 rpm and are complemented by 2 × Renk RSV 900C gearboxes and 2 × Alpha CPP propellers. The engines fulfill IMO Tier II regulations and will be built at MAN Diesel & Turbo’s Augsburg works in Germany from where they are scheduled for delivery in August 2013.

Rodriquez Cantieri Navali Delivers Catamaran

On July 7, Rodriquez Cantieri Navali do Brasil delivered the first and, after a week, launched the second of seven 52 m Double Ended CityCats under construction in Niteroi near Rio De Janeiro. The Gavea I is the fourth vessel to be completed by Rodriquez’s Brazilian shipyard after the three 28-m catamarans delivered in 2005. Entirely built of aluminum, the vessel has a length of 52 m and a beam of 14.2 m It is able to transport 1,300 passengers, 900 of whom seated, for a total payload of 125 tons, with a light displacement of 290 tons. The Citycat 52 DE is a double-ended vessel with a double bridge in order to optimize the time spent at the quayside and two MTU 16V 2000 M70 engines rated at 1050 kW each…

Rodriquez Cantieri Navali Awarded Contract

Rodriquez Cantieri Navali SpA of Italy and Arab Bridge Maritime Company of Jordan have signed a contract for a TMV 84 high-speed monohull to operate on their route from Aqaba, Jordan to Nuweiba, Egypt. The ship is scheduled to be delivered in less than a year from now. This route is currently served by a series of older passenger ferries as well as a 1992 built 131-ft. Flying Cat. For Arab Bridge Maritime Company, this will be the first new building in the history of the company and will also be the first new passenger ferry ever in Jordan with a Jordanian flag. For Rodriquez, this contract continues the diversification efforts of the company as it is the first contract with a Middle Eastern company in their history and further solidifies Rodriquez as a leading fast ferry builder.

Rodriquez and RINA Develop Green High-Speed Ferry

Italian shipyard group Rodriquez Cantieri Navali and Genoa-based classification society RINA have jointly developed an innovative and environmentally friendly high-speed ferry. A full scale prototype of the Aliswath, presently under construction, will undertake sea trials in 2007. The Aliswath hybrid design combines the small wetted area of the SWATH concept with a hydrofoil system. The prototype is designed to carry 450 passengers and 60 cars at speeds up to 28 knots, while reducing fuel consumption by 40 per cent compared with existing designs and also reducing wash, emissions and risk of oil pollution. The key to the trimaran-like design is an immersed torpedo-shaped hull with secondary dynamic lift from a sophisticated wing foil system.

Ibercisa Supplies Iraqi Navi

The Spanish company Ibercisa supplies equipment to Fincantieri, Cantieri Navali Italiani, S.p.A. through its agent Gecom, for four Saettia MK Patrol ships for the Iraqi Navy. Each of the Patrol ships is equipped with two capstans, one vertical electric anchor winch model MAN-E/V/16-S/1 chain (16 mm) and one auxiliary cargo winch RHIB model MAX-C/E/15/25-16 (6 ton direct pull). All the supplied equipment are electrically driven according to owners’ specifications. Currently, equipment is also being produced to be supplied to the same shipyard for a fleet tanker to the Indian Navy…

Wärtsilä Hamworthy Wins Fincantieri Order

Wärtsilä Hamworthy has won a contract from Fincantieri Cantieri Navali Italiani S.p.A. to supply two Membrane BioReactors (MBRs) to the 141,000gt newbuilding under construction for Carnival group member P&O Cruises. Hamworthy has delivered more than 25 MBR advanced wastewater systems to the world’s largest cruise ship operator, Carnival. The company’s MBR system produces the highest quality discharge without requiring any addition or generation of chemicals that are hazardous to the environment or vessel operation. For this contract Wärtsilä Hamworthy will also be responsible for UV polishing. The 3,611 passenger capacity vessel is set to enter service in March 2015. It will be the largest to be constructed for the British market and the order includes an option for a second vessel.

Fincantieri Chooses SimEnterprise Solutions

MSC.Software said that Fincantieri Cantieri Navali Italiani S.p.Ahas adopted and will standardize on the company's new SimEnterprise technology across all company sites and their extended supply chain. With typical development cycles not exceeding 36 months and including a 12 month design phase, Fincantieri and MSC.Software jointly undertook a detailed program of evaluation, aimed at rationalizing the simulation environment and significantly reducing the overall design-to-manufacture process. This included a full process assessment and an extended visit to MSC.Software's Solution Studio and the delivery requirements mapped to the functionality of MSC.Software's new enterprise simulation environments.

Siemens to Equip Italian Coast Guard

The Italian shipyard Cantieri Navali Megaride has recently commissioned Siemens to equip a 65-m-long offshore supply vessel from the Italian coast guard with the Siship EcoProp hybrid propulsion system. EcoProp includes two main gear units, electric propulsion motors and the hybrid propulsion control system. Diesel engines are combined with electric drive components, each of which has an output of 180 kilowatts per shaft. Siemens has developed this propulsion solution specifically to meet the requirements of smaller ships by making it easily installable in tight spaces. The company will be responsible for the project management, engineering and commissioning of the complete diesel-electric propulsion system, which is scheduled for the beginning of 2012. http://www.siemens.com/marine

Man B&W Engines Will Power Rodriguez Ferry

Four Man B&W Diesel Ltd. 18VP185’s each rated at 3,700 kWb will be supplied for a new 269 ft. Aquastrada monohull ferry to be built in Messina, Sicily by the Italian shipbuilder, Rodriguez Cantieri Navali. The aluminum-hulled fast ferry will be able to carry up to 1,246 passengers. The high speed engines are located at the aft end of the ship, allowing for greater optimization of the garage space. Top-loaded speed will be in the regionof 39 knots and the quadruple VP 185 engines will drive LIPS waterjets through Reintjes gearboxes. Waterjet propulsion, is reported to have reduced draft and excellent maneuverability.

Costa Crociere Unit Orders Two New 105,000-Ton Vessels

Costa Crociere S.p.A., a unit of Carnival Corp. has signed a letter of intent with Italian shipyard Fincantieri Cantieri Navali S.p.A. for the construction of two 105,000-ton vessels for delivery in late 2003 and late 2004. The 2,720-passenger ships, which will be built at Fincantieri's Sestri shipyard in Genoa, will cost approximately $400 million each. This latest agreement renews the association between Costa and Fincantieri, which began with the construction of the Costa Classica and Costa Romantica in 1992 and 1993, respectively.

Fincantieri Gets $800M Order From HAL

Holland America Line, owned by cruise giant Carnival Corp., ordered two $400 million ships from Italian shipyard Fincantieri Cantieri Navali S.p.A. for delivery in 2003 and 2004, the company said. Holland America said the 84,000-ton, 1,800-passenger ships will feature exterior elevators and will be built at Fincantieri's Marghera shipyard. Each will and measure 951 ft. (289.9 m) in length. Based in Seattle, Holland America said the two would be the third and fourth of a new series of vessels for the line. The company has options with Fincantieri for one more 84,000-ton sister ship.

Carnival Signs Letter Of Intent With Fincantieri

Miami-based Carnival Corp. said on Wednesday it plans to build a new $500 million, 110,000-ton ship in Italy for its cruise lines unit. A Carnival spokesperson said the company has signed a letter of intent with Italian shipyard Fincantieri Cantieri Navali Italiani S.p.A. for the construction of the new 2,974-passenger vessel. It said it will be a longer and larger version of Carnival's highly successful "Destiny-class" series, and is due to due to enter service in 2004. Company officials added that two other "Destiny-class" ships being built at Fincantieri are being "stretched" by some 60 ft. (18.2 m) to a total of 952 ft. (290 m) - matching the size of the new vessel. The two vessels - Carnival Conquest and Carnival Glory - are set to debut in 2002 and 2003, respectively.

Carnival Chooses Name

Carnival Cruise Lines chose the name Carnival Liberty for its new 110,000-ton SuperLiner scheduled to enter service in fall 2005. The fourth in the line's 110,000-ton Conquest-class series, the massive 2,974-passenger 'Fun Ship' will be constructed by Italian shipyard Fincantieri Cantieri Navali Italiani S.p.A.. Carnival Liberty's homeport and itinerary have yet to be announced. The 952-ft. Carnival Liberty will be among the largest passenger vessels at sea, and will feature four restaurants, including two twin-level formal dining rooms, an expansive two-deck-high casual poolside eatery, and an upscale "steakhouse-style" supper club.

G4 Avallone is Launched

Avallone” will be delivered next winter. The operative patrol boat “Bigliani Class” V Serie “G4 Avallone” has been launched this morning at 11.00 a.m. at the well-known shipyard Intermarine in Sarzana. Intermarine has since September 2002 been a part of Rodriquez Cantieri Navali. The ceremonial Godmother who will break the traditional bottle of champagne, will be Mrs. Ilaria Avallone, a direct descendant of C.dr Alfredo Avallone, a WWII hero who was given a Medal of Honour for military valour during World War 2. The ceremony has been attended by representatives of the Guardia di Finanza and the General Castore Palmerini, chief of the Ligurian Area Command will preside, along with the proud management and workers from the shipyard.

Largest Aquastrada High Speed Ferry Under Construction at Rodriquez

Currently under construction at Rodriquez Cantieri Navali SpA's Pietra Ligure shipyard is a TMV 115 high-speed passenger and vehicle ferry for the Spanish ferry operator Balearia Eurolines Maritimes. The contract for this vessel was signed in January 2000 and delivery is expected in May 2001. Though very similar in size and capacity to the previous TMV 114 delivered to Spanish operator Armas Ocean Jet in April of this year, there are notable differences. The reasons for these differences between the two vessels are due to owner preferences, including the choice of hull material. The additional truck lane meters of the TMV 115 have been obtained by using hoistable central and outboard car decks to allow for these taller vehicles.
