Babcock and HII Team to Support AUKUS Nuclear Submarine Program in Australia

Babcock International Group and HII have combined forces in Australia, working together to support critical capability requirements for the AUKUS nuclear submarine program.The partnership builds on the existing agreement between both companies to partner in the UK and US on nuclear decommissioning, disposal and national security opportunities.Babcock and HII will collaborate to develop the optimal models for nuclear-powered submarine capability, including infrastructure, sustainment and the necessary skills development, to support the AUKUS endeavour.

Vigor Industrial has emerged as a leading consolidator of shipbuilding prowess on the U.S. West Coast, and the company continues to invest in new capability and infrastructure. “Over the past year there has been a marked increase in vessel fabrication opportunities of all kinds, including for ferries, tugs, barges, and fishing vessels,” said Vince Piscitello, VP of Sales, Marketing and Business Development. Earlier this year Vigor signed an agreement to build the largest floating drydock in the United States, and construction is currently underway.

LR Wins Singapore LNG Development Contract

Lloyd’s Register wins Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) contract to develop operational procedures and technical standards required to develop LNG bunkering capabilities in the Port of Singapore. In the contracted work, which has already commenced, Lloyd’s Register will identify technical specifications, LNG bunkering procedures, and development of crew competency for LNG bunkering in the Port of Singapore, to support Singapore in developing its ambitions to develop the capability and infrastructure to supply LNG as a fuel for ships. Ng Kean Seng, Marine Country Manager for Lloyd’s Register in Singapore, said: "Singapore is supporting efforts to create a clean fuel future for global shipping by developing LNG bunkering operations.

Rolls-Royce, Derby (UK) Office Opening

HRH Duke of Kent K.G. performed the official opening of Atlantic House, a new state-of-the-art office facility located on the Raynesway Site. Lawrie Haynes, Rolls-Royce President – Nuclear said: "We are delighted to welcome HRH Duke of Kent to Raynesway to officially open Atlantic House and to see some of the important work that we do in support of the Royal Navy's Submarine Programme. "Atlantic House provides a superb and modern working environment for our people and their extraordinary engineering skills and expertise. Atlantic House is the second phase of the Raynesway Regeneration Project which, in its entirety, will ensure the capability and infrastructure necessary to deliver the UK's Submarine Programme for the next 50 years, securing up to 2000 jobs at Raynesway.

Lockheed Selects Rolls-Royce to Power LCS

Rolls-Royce has been selected by Lockheed Martin to provide MT30 gas turbine engines and waterjets for up to two ships of the Littoral Combat Ship program (LCS), the next generation of US Navy warship. LCS is being designed and built to improve the US Navy's operational capability in the littorals, or coastal waters. Rolls-Royce's selection as the engine and waterjet provider for the Lockheed Martin ships leaves it well positioned for the program. The Lockheed Martin ship design incorporates two Rolls-Royce MT30 marine gas turbines driving four Rolls-Royce high-speed waterjets. The first vessel is due to be launched in December 2006 by Lockheed Martin. General Dynamics will also construct up to two ships for the same class.
