MOL, TotalEnergies Complete First First Ship Refuelling with Biofuel in Singapore
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) and TotalEnergies Marine Fuels have completed the first refuelling of a ship with biofuels in Singapore, the shipping company said on Wednesday.The ship, a car and truck carrier named Heroic Ace, was refueled using biofuel supplied by TotalEnergies via a ship-to-ship transfer on June 11, MOL said in a statement.The biofuel blend that was used in the trial comprised of very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO) blended with 20% second-generation, waste-based and ISCC-certified used cooking oil methyl ester (UCOME), MOL said.

An executive of Japan-based Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd. (K-Line) was sentenced to 18 months in a U.S. prison after pleading guilty to his involvement in a conspiracy to fix prices, allocate customers and rig bids of international ocean shipping services for roll-on, roll-off cargo to and from the United States and elsewhere, the Department of Justice announced. According to the one-count felony charge filed in U.S. District Court of the District of Maryland in Baltimore on Jan. 22, 2015, Toru Otoda, who was a general manager in K-Line’s car carrier division, conspired to allocate customers and routes, rig bids and fix prices for the sale of international ocean shipments of roll-on, roll-off cargo to and from the United States and elsewhere, including the Port of Baltimore.

Wallenius Willhelmsen Makes Agreement With HMM
Wilh, Wilhelmsen ASA and Wallenius have jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Korean company Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) for the possible acquisition of the the car carrier division of HMM which would continue to be operated as a separate company with its Korean profile.
WW and OW Acquire HMM’s Car Carrier Division
Representatives from Wilh. Wilhelmsen ASA (WW) and Wallenius Lines AB (OW) on August 10, 2002 signed the agreement with Korea’s Hyundai Merchant Marine Co., Ltd. (HMM) on the acquisition of HMM’s car carrier division. The terms of the agreement include long-term exclusive contracts with Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) and Kia Motor Corporation (KMC) on shipping their car exports for an initial five-year period, with provision for extensions. The newly-established company, which will acquire HMM’s car carrier division, will be incorporated in Korea, with WW and OW together holding 80 percent and with HMC and KMC together holding 20 percent. The price for the acquisition will be $1.3 billion plus the assumption of future vessel charter obligations.
Leif Hoegh Forecasts Higher Profits
Norwegian shipping company Leif Hoegh forecast higher operating profits in 2000. The company reported an operating profit of $23.2 million in 1999, down from $70.97 million in 1998. It said that profits would be lifted by the consolidation of the Hual car carrier division into its accounts, by its reefer unit Unicool, as well as by improvements in other areas. The company also said that it was proposing a 450 million crowns capital expansion, linked to its purchase of a 50 percent stake in Hual from Ugland International. Leif Hoegh is paying $390 million for the stake, making it the sole owner.
