Jeddah Mulls Safe and Secure Regional Waters
Signatory States to an agreement aimed at repressing piracy, armed robbery and illicit maritime activity in the western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden Area have agreed that building response capability and information sharing are vital steps towards achieving a more safe and secure maritime environment. The signatories to the revised Code of Conduct concerning the repression of piracy, armed robbery against ships and illicit maritime activity in the western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden Area, known as the Jeddah Amendment to the Djibouti Code of Conduct 2017, were meeting In Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for a high level workshop (7-10 May) for all signatory States and States eligible to sign the Jeddah Amendment, donors and implementing partners.
Winners of International Seafarers' Welfare Awards
The winners of ISWAN's International Seafarers' Welfare Awards 2016 were announced on 24th June at a high-profile ceremony held in Manila, the Philippines. The ceremony forms part of ISWAN's celebrations in the Philippines for the IMO Day of the Seafarer. The awards were presented by IMO Secretary General Mr Kitack Lim to seven recipients who have provided exceptional services for the welfare and wellbeing of seafarers. The Welfare Personality of the Year Award is named after Dr Dierk Lindemann who sadly passed away on 17 March 2014. Dr Lindemann served as the Shipowner's Group spokesperson at the ILO and took a lead role in the adoption of the Maritime Labour Convention. Milford Haven Begins Trial of 3D Surveillance System
Milford Haven Port Authority has begun a trial of advanced C-Vu 3-dimensional VTS display software from GeoVS. The system has been installed to establish whether its clarity of presentation and viewing versatility can enhance situation awareness and ease of interpretation for the port’s vessel traffic controllers. The technology is unique in that it transforms a traditional two dimensional radar display into a three dimensional panorama in which, instead of appearing as featureless radar targets, vessels on the display appear as they really are.
CNOOC Changes to Senior Management
The board of directors of CNOOC Limited announced that Mr. Fu Chengyu, an Executive Director of the Company, will be re-designated as a Non-executive Director of the Company. Mr. Fu remains the Chairman of the Board. Mr. Li Fanrong, a Non-executive Director of the Company, will be re-designated as an Executive Director of the company. The re-designations of Mr. Fu and Mr. Li will become effective from 16 September 2010. Born in 1951, Mr. Fu received a B.S. degree in geology from the Northeast Petroleum Institute in China and a master degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Southern California in the United States. He has over 30 years of experience in the oil industry in the PRC. He previously worked in China’s Daqing, Liaohe and Huabei oil fields.
MMA To Host Fishing, Ferry Industry Event
The Ship Operations Cooperative Program (SOCP) invites the maritime industry to attend the next SOCP meeting on June 12-13, 2001 at Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts. The meeting will feature Mr. Bernardo Obando-Rojas, Seafarers International Research Center, Cardiff University speaking on fraudulent Practices for Certificates and Endorsements. Topics being covered will include an Alternative Fuels discussion panel, panel discussions on Issues Facing Fishing and Ferry Operators, a presentation on Air Emissions Regulations and Technologies. At dinner, Mr. Jim Zok, Associate Administrator for Financial Approvals and Cargo Preference, under whose stewardship SOCP falls, will provide a perspective on SOCP's past, present and future.

Jim Zok, MARAD Associate Administrator for Financial Approvals and Cargo Preference, under whose stewardship SOCP falls, will provide a perspective on SOCP's past, present and future.
