Carisbrooke Shipping to Trial a Hydrogen Engine

Carisbrooke Shipping Ltd have partnered with CARNOT whose consortium has been awarded £2.3 million to develop a zero-emission 50kW hydrogen auxiliary engine demonstrator under Innovate UK Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition.Following design, simulations and testing, the single-fuel hydrogen 50kW engine will be integrated into a containerized system and mounted on the deck of one of Carisbrooke Shipping's cargo vessels, Karen C, for a 40-day sea trial in early 2025 to partially supply electrical power to the vessel.The core goal is to validate the decarbonizing impact that high efficiency, zero-emission engines can have in the maritime industry and build on work from the previously successful CMDC 1 & 2 grants…

Carisbrooke Joins Forces with Nova Marine

The commercial short sea bulk activities of traditionally shortsea ship owners Carisbrooke Shipping Ltd and Nova Marine Carriers SA will be expanded and consolidated effective January 1, 2017. Notwithstanding both groups’ commercial networking offices, the coordination of all chartering and operation activities will be channeled from Nova Marine’s HQ in Lugano, Switzerland. GL Completes EEDI Certification

Carisbrooke Shipping's "Vectis Falcon"

Germanischer Lloyd (GL) presented Carisbrooke Shipping with energy efficiency design index (EEDI) certificates for four low emission dry cargo vessels. Built by Chinese shipyard Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, the four 8500 DWT sister vessels, the Vectis Eagle, Falcon, Harrier and Osprey incorporate a number of innovative features, including the distinctive Groot Cross-Bow(r). The four vessels, which have been built to Finnish Swedish Iceclass 1A, have been designed and constructed to optimize energy efficiency in almost every facet of operation.

Carisbrooke Shipping Chooses Thordon Bearings

Eco-conscious Carisbrooke opts for seawater lubricated propeller shaft bearings on latest newbuildings. The Vectis Eagle, an 8500 dwt multi-purpose dry cargo vessel, is Carisbrooke Shipping’s latest newbuild and first of their fleet to be fitted with Thordon COMPAC seawater lubricated propeller shaft bearings. The Finnish/Swedish 1A Ice-Class vessel launched in September 2011 and is currently carrying out its maiden voyage through the Panama Canal travelling from China to Haiti and Brazil.
