SEACOR Marine Upgrades PSV with Hybrid Battery Power System

U.S.-based SEACOR Marine has completed the installation of a hybrid power system on its platform supply vessel (PSV) SEACOR Yangtze.Beginning in February 2024 in Norway, Kongsberg Maritime started the upgrade of the UT771 CDL SEACOR Yangtze with the Deckhouse Energy Storage System.The installation of the system has been completed, SEACOR Marine informed on April 4, 2024, adding to its fleet of hybrid battery-powered PSVs.To remind, SEACOR Marine announced it will convert four other of its PSVs to battery hybrid power in a move to enhance efficiency and slash emissions.The Houston-headquartered

SEACOR to Convert Four PSVs to Battery Hybrid Power

SEACOR Marine announced it will convert four of its platform supply vessels (PSV) to battery hybrid power in a move to enhance efficiency and slash emissions.The Houston-headquartered marine transportation firm said on Thursday it has ordered containerized energy storage systems (ESS) from Norway's Kongsberg Maritime for install aboard SEACOR Ohio, SEACOR Alps, SEACOR Andes and SEACOR Atlas.The four 278.4-foot-long PSVs are all of Kongsberg Maritime's UT771 CDL design and were built in China from 2018 to 2020.

Delia Succeeds Schmidt as Ohmsett Program Manager

MAR Incorporated has named John Delia the Program manager for Ohmsett – The National Oil Spill Response Research & Renewable Energy Test Facility, succeeding Bill Schmidt who retired in December 2015. Delia was most recently with BAE Systems where he served as a Program Manager responsible for the production and development of systems as well as the logistics for the Low Probability of Altimeter (LPIA), Common Data Link (CDL) and F-22 product lines within the Electronic Systems group. Prior to working at BAE systems he served as a Senior Engineer with Northrop Grumman supporting the Defense Metrological Satellite Program (DMSP) where he performed extensive data analysis and operations of sensors on satellites.

Brazil Gets Another Lynx

BelovEngenharia ordered a second Saab Seaeye Lynx ROV for its operations in Brazil’s vast oil fields. The six thruster 1,500-meter-rated Lynx will be used for the inspection of oil lines, risers and jackets. For line inspection, a Tritech digital precision altimeter has been fitted to maintain accurate offset from the seabed as the ROV follows the pipeline. When undertaking jacket inspection, a fitted CDL fiber-optic gyro means there is no magnetic interference from the jacket structure whilst accurately tracking the ROV’s motion.

Tognum to supply 16 marine gensets with MTU Series 4000 engines as part of Rolls-Royce UT-OSV design for 4 new CDL OSV's. Tognum will deliver 16 MTU marine generator sets with 12V 4000 M23S Ironmen engines for four Rolls-Royce UT 771 CDL offshore supply vessels (OSV) to be built at COSCO (Zhoushan) Shipyard Co. Ltd. in China. The gensets are part of a £26 million Rolls-Royce order to provide an integrated design, power and propulsion and equipment package. COSCO will build the OSVs for a Hong Kong owner. The four vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2014.

Rolls Royce Gets COSCO Multiple OSV Contract

Rolls-Royce contracted to provide integrated design, power & propulsion & equipment package for four Rolls-Royce UT 771 CDL offshore supply vessels. Rolls Royce's  £26 million order is for vessels to be built at COSCO (Zhoushan) Shipyard Co. Ltd, in China for a Hong Kong owner. The contract includes options for four additional vessels. This contract is the first time Rolls-Royce has incorporated high speed MTU-engines as part of an integrated power and propulsion package within the successful UT-vessel series.

Rolls-Royce Secures Systems Order for Offshore Supply Vessels

Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has won a £24 million order to design and equip four offshore service vessels, which will be built by COSCO (Guangdong) Shipyard Co. Ltd in China. The Rolls-Royce UT 771 CDL vessels will feature a fully-integrated equipment system, including highly efficient diesel electric propulsion, deck machinery, bulk handling equipment and automation and control systems. "We are very pleased to sign our first contract with COSCO, and we look forward to working closely with them,” said Jørn Heltne, Rolls-Royce, Senior Vice President Ship Technology – Offshore. The vessels will be equipped for transporting pipes, equipment and cargo to and from pipe-laying barges, oil drilling and production platforms. The vessels will also be equipped for fire fighting.

Chinese Shipyard Gets Large US Orders for PSV's

COSCO (Guandong Shipyard) gets order for four Platform Supply Vessels (PSV's) option for six more from US shipowner Four shipbuilding contracts have been signed between COSCO's Guandong Shipyard and an American ship owner for the construction of four UT 771 CDL Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs) at a value of over US$ 105 million in total. Delivery of the above four vessels is expected to commence in early 2014. In addition, the same ship owner has options to declare up to another six contracts for the construction of the same UT 771 CDL PSVs, which have a value of over US$ 160 million in total. COSCO say they will make announcements as and when the shipbuilding contracts subject to such options are declared effective.

Keppel Offshore & Marine Limited (Keppel O&M), through its wholly-owned subsidiary Keppel Singmarine Pte Ltd (Keppel Singmarine), has secured two contracts worth $153.4m. Keppel Unit Wins Contracts Worth $155.6m

Keppel Corp. said Keppel Singmarine Pte Ltd. has won two shipbuilding contracts worth $155.6m, Thompson Financial reported. Keppel Singmarine will build a derrick pipelay vessel for Global Offshore International Ltd, a unit of U.S.-listed Global Industries Ltd. In a separate deal, Keppel Singmarine will construct a 100-metre Rolls-Royce designed UT 788 CDL ultra-deepwater multi-functional support vessel For Lewek Shipping Pte Ltd., a unit of Singapore-listed Ezra Holdings Ltd. CDL to Launch Tugboat

Colombo Dockyards Limited’s (CDL) launch of the Anchor Handling Tug a boat, built for Great Ship (India), is scheduled to take place next week, reported the Daily News. CDL had invested much resources to modernize the previous repair dock No. 2 to a shipbuilding dock with increased tonnage and widening of the entrance to handle beamer ships, which is at the Colombo Port. This is the first of the two Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels (AHTSV) with a 80 Ton Bollard Pull capacity for Greatship (India) Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of one of India’s largest private sector shipping companies, the Great Eastern Shipping Company, who are in the business of providing offshore oil field services catering to the oil and gas E&P domain.

CDL to Build Two Ships

Colombo Dockyard Limited (CDL) secured orders for construction of two numbers 250 passenger capacity ships for the Government of India, the Daily News reported. This is the first time in the history of local shipbuilding industry that a Sri Lankan organization (in this case CDL) has been awarded a shipbuilding project by the government of India. This is the first Ocean going passenger vessel construction to be undertaken by CDL. Since its inception in 1974 CDL has managed to prove its capabilities by building Tug boats, fast crafts, anchor handling tugs to meet owner’s (Local and foreign) requirements and international classification society standards.

CDL Delivers Tugboat for AA Turki Corp.

On October 23, 2006, Colombo Dockyard Limited (CDL) delivered the first ever Tug Boat built for Saudi Arabia, built for A.A. Turki Corporation. The tug is propelled by Azimuth Thrusters, which can rotate 360 degrees and features controllable pitch propellers. It also features an autopilot system from Rolls-Royce. The main engines from Wartsila Italy deliver 2000 kW @ 1000 rpm each. These Tugs, that are built to international standards meeting requirements of Lloyds Register of Shipping, perform berthing operations as well as salvage, towing, pulling, pushing and fire fighting activities. CDL was successful in securing the contract after a team of technical staff visited the yard for yard audits…

Sri Lanka’s Dockyard Says Only Talks no Shipyards

Colombo Dockyard Ltd. (CDL) said it was in the preliminary stage of talks with Croatian shipbuilders on possible collaboration but says there is no joint venture plan for a yard in Hambantota. It said in a statement to the Colombo Stock Exchange that the idea of possible collaboration in shipbuilding between Croatia and Sri Lanka was mooted by the Sri Lanka mission in Vienna. Last Thursday, minister for enterprise development and investment promotion, Sarath Amunugama, said there had been talks between Sri Lanka and Croatia on setting up ship-building facilities in Hambantota and talks have started with Colombo Dockyard. His remarks were made at the opening of a supply chain hub for the supermarket chain Marks & Spencer at Global Park in Seeduwa.
