DNV GL is partnering with the EXPOSED Aquaculture Operations Centre, with the aim to make fish farming safer and more sustainable. EXPOSED is a Centre for Research based Innovation with the main objective to develop knowledge and technologies for exposed aquaculture operations, enabling a sustainable expansion of the fish farming industry. Developing aquaculture for the future brings together competencies from different branches of DNV GL, including DNV GL Noomas, Maritime and Oil & Gas. Through the partnership, DNV GL will engage in projects focusing on development of regulations of the aquaculture industry in exposed areas, safety and risk management of marine structures and operations, and design methodology and requirements for novel fish farm concepts.

Fincantieri and the Krylov State Research Centre of Russia have signed a framework agreement with the aim of jointly developing new projects for technological innovation within the industry. The agreement, with an initial five-year term, stipulates that a series of initiatives will be undertaken in the partners' respective areas of operation, including joint research and development activities, the realization of new generation products and the provision of services. The TK Foundation has announced the approval of eight grants totalling nearly $2 million. The TK Foundation is a strong funding vehicle for maritime programs and youth development. Its maritime grant-making program is proactive, inviting maritime organizations to submit requests for funding in specific areas of interest to the Foundation. In keeping with its focus on supporting non-profit organizations and programs that improve the maritime realm, The TK Foundation has granted eight awards. The World Maritime University (WMU) is a centre of excellence for maritime education and research, operating under the auspices of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Leading world experts in oil spill response have agreed a series of recommendations to deal with future spills of high density oil during the International Maritime Organization’s Third R&D Forum on High Density Oil Spill Response, held from 11-13 March in Brest, France, following the generous offer of the French Government to host the Forum. Large quantities of high density oil are carried by ships either as cargo or as fuel (bunkers). This oil’s characteristics, including high viscosity and tendency to sink, present particular challenges for clean-up operations in the event of an accidental spill at sea.
