US Coast Guard Cutter Collides With Fishing Vessel Near Puerto Rico; One Dead

A U.S. Coast Guard cutter was involved in a fatal collision with a small fishing boat Monday afternoon off the coast of Puerto Rico.The 154-foot Sentinel Class fast response cutter Winslow Griesser and the 23-foot commercial fishing vessel Desakata collided, approximately four nautical miles north of Dorado, Puerto Rico.Following the collision, the cutter crew recovered the two fishermen aboard Desakata, identified as Carlos Rosario, who was fatally injured, and his brother Samuel Rosario Beltrán…

LNG Carrier Rescues Injured Sailors

A Malta-flagged liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier assisted in the rescue of two injured sailors off the coast of Puerto Rico.The BW Lilac, part of the Automated Mutual-Assistance Vessel Rescue System (AMVER), diverted to assist two injured mariners who reportedly sustained injuries aboard the 32-foot sailing vessel Uplace and were in need of care ashore.U.S. Coast Guard watchstanders in Sector San Juan received a request from the International Emergency Response Coordination Center at 9:45p.m., Saturday, to medevac the sailing vessel's master, who had sustained a leg injury.

Coast Guard Medevacs Tanker Crewman with Severed Finger

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew medevaced a man Wednesday afternoon from the 392-foot Maltese-flagged tank ship Emek-S, approximately 28 nautical miles southwest of Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. Coast Guard watchstanders in Sector San Juan received a call from the captain of the Emek-S at 3:08 p.m. stating that a crewmember, who was a Turkish citizen, had lost part of his left hand's middle finger two hours earlier. Coast Guard Crews Rescue Tanker Crewman

A U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Air Station Borinquen MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew evacuated an ailing mariner from a tanker vessel approximately 50 nautical miles north of San Juan Harbor, Puerto Rico, early Tuesday morning. The helicopter crew safely transported the man to emergency medical services at Centro Medico Hospital in San Juan. Coast Guard Sector San Juan command center watchstanders received a request for assistance from the crew of the 600-foot tanker Champion Cornelia early Monday morning while the vessel was approximately 300 nautical miles north of Puerto Rico.
