Aussie Pumps Wins Korean Navy Contract

A Sydney base pump manufacturer and defense contractor has won a contract, to supply 3” engine drive salvage pumps for the Republic Of Korea Navy. Bahri Ship Management Complies with EU MRV

Bahri Ship Management, one of the six business units within transportation and logistics company Bahri, said it is in compliance with the submission of EU MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, Verification) plans for the full fleet, ahead of the deadline. At present, Bahri Ship Management operates 39 VLCCs, 23 chemical tankers, 10 product tankers, fivebulk carriers and six ROCONs. Seven further VLCCs are on order, with deliveries expected to be completed by May 2018. To comply with the EU MRV Regulation, ship owners and operators of vessels exceeding 5,000 GT and intending to operate to or from or within the European Union must have approved ship-specific monitoring plans (MP)…

Drone Technology Aids Antarctic Ship Operations

A quadcopter drone has helped navigate the Aurora Australis through the sea ice on its annual resupply voyage to Casey station. Flown off the aft deck of the ship, the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) provided the crew with real-time imagery of the sea ice conditions ahead of the ship, optimising navigation decisions. Australian Antarctic Division Future Concepts Manager, Matt Filipowski, said the drone was a valuable addition to the current suite of sea ice navigation tools, which include satellite imagery and radar. “This is the first time the Australian Antarctic Division has used drone technology to assist ship operations,” Filipowski said. The proof-of-concept flights were undertaken by Civil Aviation and Safety Authority (CASA) certified company, Australian UAV.

Avante Expands VSTEP Simulator

Following the installation of a VSTEP desktop trainer classroom last year, the Avante Escuela de la Marina Mercante in Colombia has now purchased a Class A Full Mission Bridge Simulator to further expand its simulator training capacity. The follow-up order for an additional VSTEP NAUTIS Class A Full Mission Bridge simulator was placed following the delivery of a desktop trainer classroom at the Avante Maritime School and the overwhelmingly positive feedback by students and instructors about the ease of use and high quality training possibilities of these desktop trainers.

West Asia Maritime Signs $33.5M Deal with Mitsui

West Asia Maritime Limited (WAM) has signed an MoU of $33.52M deal with Mitsui & Co, Japan for taking a IHIMU, Japan built geared 56,120 DWT Bulk Carrier under Bareboat Charter with purchase option. The new vessel, which is to be delivered in 1st Quarter 2008, is chartered for 12.5 years and will be trading worldwide for the movement of dry bulk cargoes. This is the first time that an Indian shipping company has taken this route to control with an option to acquire ships. Under the proposed deal, WAM would be getting the vessel for a long period with minimal investment and also have purchase option. WAM can now buy the asset at any time during the charter period at a pre-determined price.
