Hempel Rolls Out New Cargo Hold Coating

Hempel has launched Hempadur Ultra-Strength Fiber 47510, a new cargo hold coating said to deliver up to 40 percent reduction in cargo holds maintenance costs, according to the coatings manufacturer. Hempel said the new coating is specifically designed to withstand conditions experienced by cargo holds, hatch covers and hatch coamings of bulk carriers, offering superior corrosion protection and long major repair intervals for owners and operators, as well as application simplicity for shipyards and applicators. Hempadur Ultra-Strength Fiber 47510 incorporates a combination of mechanical resistance, fiber and self-toughening technology for improved cargo hold protection, the manufacturer said.

Bonhomme Richard Conducts CBR Defense Training

At Sea (NNS) -- Crew members aboard USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) donned gas masks and chemical protection suits to treat mock mass casualties during a series of chemical, biological and radiological (CBR) defense drills recently. The drills are consistent with the normal basic-phase training routine ships go through to prepare for deployment, but according to ship Operations Officer Cmdr. Paul Shock, Bonhomme Richard is going through the training a lot sooner than most.
