Fans on twitter have been speculating her death, but never fear, it is more likely her tracker has lost battery power. Mary Lee was named after Ocearch expedition leader Chris Fischer’s mother.

Ship Noise Guide Updated
Controlling shipborne noise is always a concern for vessel designers, builders and outfitters. The two most widely distributed documents are IMO's Resolution A.468(XII), "Code on Noise Levels Onboard Ships," issued in 1981 and the USCG's Navigation and Vessel Inspection Circular (NVIC) 12-82, "Recommendations on Control of Excessive Noise," issued in 1982. These two documents generally discuss methods to reduce shipboard noise, recommend noise limits and describe how to measure noise on ships. One year after the USCG issued the NVIC 12-82, a group of acoustical engineers from the consulting firm of Bolt Beranek and Newman (BBN), completed a report that is not as well known, which is still available from SNAME.

Regulators Target Cruise Ship Wastewater
According to the AP, Maine's Department of Environmental Protection is launching a new permit system that requires discharges by cruise ships to be as clean as wastewater treated on shore. Cruise ships will be prohibited from dumping wastewater within three miles of the shore unless they can meet the same water quality standards as municipal treatment plants. The rules apply to passenger ships that have at least 500 beds. From the point of view of the cruise ship industry, Maine's initiative will have little impact, said Christine Fischer, spokeswoman for the International Council of Cruise Lines. Fischer said council members, who include more than 90 percent of the cruise market in North America, have already agreed not to discharge wastewater within four miles of the nation's coastline.
