ClassNK Releases Revised Guidelines

ClassNK (Chairman and President: Noboru Ueda) has released a new revised edition of its Guidelines for Hull Girder Torsional Strength Assessment which comprise section of the leading class society’s Guidelines for Container Carrier Structures. In order to respond to the rapidly increasing size of container carriers, as well as rationally address the latest theories and methods of container carrier design, ClassNK began to a comprehensive process to review and update its Guidelines for Container Carrier Structures in 2011.

ClassNK and NMRI Convene Workshop on Damage Stability

Leading Classification Society ClassNK and Japan’s National Maritime Research Institute (NMRI) brought some of the world’s leading specialists on structural safety to Tokyo for an international workshop on risk-based assessment of ship safety held jointly by the two organizations in Tokyo on 11 October, 2011. The event, which included presentations from top experts from the IMO and Europe’s leading maritime universities as well as leading researchers from NMRI and ClassNK, drew over 100 attendees from throughout Japan’s maritime industry. In addition to Q&A sessions held after each speaker’s presentation, all of the presenters took part in a lively panel discussion on damage stability at the end of the event.

ClassNK Releases New Container Guidelines/Software

ClassNK Releases New Guidelines and Software for Container Carrier Structures. ClassNK has released a new revised edition of its “Guidelines for Container Carrier Structures – Guidelines for Direct Strength Analysis”, as well as a new version of its PrimeShip-HULL(DSA) software for use in designing container carriers in line with the new guidelines. ClassNK released the first edition of its “Guidelines for Container Carrier Structures” in 2003, providing shipbuilders and designers with a wealth of information on ship performance that the Society had accumulated over its many years in ship classification, as well as the latest information on new technologies and other advances related to container carrier construction.

ClassNK Announces New Head of European Operations

Dr. April 7 (London) - ClassNK officially announced the appointment of Dr. M. Abdul Rahim to the role of Regional Manager in charge of the Society’s European and African operations at a party at the InterContinental London Park Lane Hotel last night. Nearly 100 guests from without the local maritime industry we’re in attendance at the party to welcome Dr. Rahim to his new position and see off former Regional Manager Tetsuya Kinoshita, including current IACS Chairman and ClassNK Chairman and President Noboru Ueda.
