CMA CGM Launches Direct Asia Service from New Orleans

France-based CMA CGM today announced a new direct weekly container service to Asia from the Port of New Orleans Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal. Part of the company’s PEX3 service, the inaugural vessel is scheduled to arrive on January 31 for service by terminal operator Ports America. “CMA CGM is proud to be expanding our presence in New Orleans, further showing our commitment to the Gulf region, and Louisiana specifically. We look forward to continued growth in the region, and are pleased to be contributing to the evolution and development of this vital hub. In the U.S., the Group now offers a global coverage with 23 services in and out of North America to over 150 countries around the world,” said Marc Bourdon, CMA CGM America LLC President.

CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin Inaugrated in Long Beach

Shipping group CMA CGM announced that the 18,000 TEU capacity CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin, the largest vessel ever to call the United States, will be inaugurated today in Long Beach, Calif. in the presence of Jacques R. Benjamin Franklin Sails Home

The largest container ship to ever visit the U.S., the1,300-foot-long CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin, left the Port of Oakland Monday afternoon around 1:15 p.m. after docking at the port on New Year’s Eve, port officials said. It stopped at Los Angeles first before arriving in Oakland, and will export agricultural products and other items back to Asia, port officials said. CMA CGM, based in Marseilles, France, expects the Benjamin Franklin to return to Oakland regularly, hauling cargo between China, South Korea and the West Coast. Receiving an 18,000-TEU capacity vessel for the first time requires long and meticulous preparation to guarantee a flawless call and fluid operations in as little time as possible.

CMA CGM Launches New TransAtlantic Service

The CMA CGM Group announced that it will launch a new container shipping offering between North America and North Europe at the end of May 2015. The group will expand its existing transatlantic services with the launch of the NEW VESPUCCI service and the addition of a new port of call in Baltimore to its LIBERTY SOLO service. CMA CGM America Reorganization

CMA CGM would like to announce the reorganization of CMA CGM America LLC, the U.S. agent of the CMA CGM Group, headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia, with the departure of Frank Baragona, Chairman of CMA CGM America LLC. After a successful career in the shipping industry and nine years as head of CMA CGM America, Frank Baragona will be leaving the CMA CGM Group at the end of 2013 for retirement. As of November 2013, Marc Bourdon, General Manager of CMA CGM do Brazil, will take on the position of General Manager of CMA CGM America LLC and will closely be working with: Todd Rives, Chief Commercial Officer; Ed McCarthy, Chief Operating Officer and Jim Arnold, Chief Financial Officer, already in place in Norfolk.

Port of L.A. Recognizes Green Initiatives

The Port of Los Angeles honored 26 shipping and cruise lines for their participation in the Port’s Vessel Speed Reduction Program (VSRP), an initiative that involves the lowering of vessel speeds when ships approach the Port. The VSRP has resulted in significant decreases in diesel particulate matter, sulfur oxide and nitrogen oxide emissions into the environment since it was established in 2001. For the first time, the Port also honored 12 ship carriers for their participation in the Environmental Ship Index (ESI), an international clean air program that rewards ocean carriers for bringing their newest and cleanest vessels to the Port.

Container Line Major Adds Charleston to Asia Service

CMA CGM is adding the Port of Charleston to its Pacific Express 3 (PEX 3) weekly service. The French carrier has deployed 11 vessels of between 4,400 and 5,100 20-foot equivalent unit (TEU) capacity in the service. The first ship in the service to call Charleston, the 5,095-TEU CMA CGM Florida, is scheduled to call North Charleston Terminal in mid-April. CMA CGM (America) LLC announced that Michael Di Caprio has been promoted to District Sales Manager. In his new role, Di Caprio will be responsible for overseeing sales in northern Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Michael joined CMA CGM in 1999, and has held progressively responsible positions in the organization’s export service delivery and commercial teams. New Reefer Customer Service Desk

CMA CGM (America) LLC announced that they will launch a new dedicated export reefer customer service desk on March 30, 2009. The new Export Reefer Customer Service Desk will be based in the Norfolk, Virginia office, and will give export refrigerated cargo customers access to a dedicated team of customer service representatives that can help customers place or modify bookings, track and trace cargo, process documentation and/or assist with problem resolution. Ring, Director at CMA CGM (America)

CMA CGM (America) LLC has named Timothy Ring Director, Inbound Trade and Government Cargo. In his new role, Tim will be responsible for the growth and development of inbound cargo volumes for the company’s transatlantic, Oceania, and Indian Subcontinent services. He will also continue to oversee all U.S. government shipments. Tim joined the Washington, D.C. office of CMA CGM in November 2005.
