Asia’s First Ship-to-containership LNG Bunkering Performed in Singapore

Asia's first ship-to-containership liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation was undertaken in Singapore on Wednesday as vessel owner and operators continue to turn to the cleaner burning fuel to reduce their emissions and Singapore ramps up its efforts to become an LNG bunkering hub.French shipping company CMA CGM, a large adopter of LNG fuel for its containerships, said its vessel CMA CGM Scandola was fueled with 7,100 cubic meters (m3) of LNG from FueLNG Bellina, Singapore’s first LNG bunkering vessel.

CMA CGM Otello Largest Box Ship to Call Indonesia

CMA CGM Otello has arrived Indonesia as the largest container vessel to call the country at the Jakarta International Container Terminal. The occasion also celebrated her impending maiden voyage for the industry’s first direct service from Indonesia to the United States (U.S.) on 24 April. Officiating the event was Minister of Transportation, Mr. Budi Karya Sumadi. He joined some 350 guests including various government officials as well as industry stakeholders at the milestone celebration. The 8,238-TEU vessel is deployed for the Java Sea Express (JAX) service and Pendulum Loop 1 (PE1) service by CMA CGM and APL respectively – two operating brands of the CMA CGM Group.

CMA CGM, PSA Container Terminal JV in Singapore

The CMA CGM Group and PSA  have kicked off the second phase of their container terminal joint venture in Singapore. Officiating the event were François Hollande, President of the French Republic, and Khaw Boon Wan, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport, Singapore. The CMA CGM - PSA Lion Terminal (CPLT) started operations with two mega container berths at PSA Singapore’s Pasir Panjang Terminal 5 (PPT 5) that had an initial annual capacity of 2 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in July 2016. With the addition of two more berths under Phase 2 of its development, CPLT is now equipped with a total operating capacity of 4 million TEUs.

COSCO Ports and CMA Terminals Join Forces

Cosco Shipping Ports  has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with CMA Terminals Holding in Shanghai. The two parties have agreed to seek cooperation in ports worldwide and preference will be given to ports that the Ocean Alliance calls. Meanwhile, both sides have also agreed to provide support in terms of business and service to the ports that the other side has already invested. Zhang Wei, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Cosco Shipping  Ports and Farid Salem, Executive Officer of CMA CGM Group signed the MOU in the presence of  Huang Xiaowen, Deputy General Manager of China Cosco Shipping  Corporation Limited and Chairman of Cosco Shipping Ports…

CMA CGM’s Seasonal Fruit Service Returns

The CMA CGM Group announced its Citrus Express seasonal service will start again in November. Spread over two rotations, this service enables to export citrus fruits and apples from East Mediterranean to the Black Sea. It will call the ports of Syria, Turkey and the Black Sea from November to January, then Egypt, Syria, Turkey and the Black Sea from January to April. According to CMA CGM, the citrus market is growing and benefits the export countries. With 80% of the citrus being produced on the Mediterranean coast, the Citrus Express service relies on refrigerated container shipping.

CMA CGM Extends Black Sea/North Europe Service

The CMA CGM Group announced the extension of its FEMEX service on the North Europe – Mediterranean trade. In order to improve the coverage of the North Europe – Mediterranean trade and coinciding with a growing existing demand, the CMA CGM Group extended its FEMEX service in the Black Sea with the addition of three new calls in Samsun (Turkey), Novorossiysk (Russia) and Constanta (Romania). The CMA CGM Group will become the only shipping line offering a direct coverage into the Black Sea region from / to North Europe.

Container Ship Newbuildings: Supply May Outstrip Demand

Ocean carriers have a pool of surplus 8,000-10,000 teu vessels looming ahead unless some thinking ‘outside of the box’ is behind recent newbuild orders, considers Drewry Maritime Research in their latest 'Container Insight'. Ocean carriers have returned to ordering vessels between 8,000-10,000 teu in large numbers, suggesting that either overcapacity is brewing ahead, or unusual service developments are in the pipeline. By the end of this year, 55 vessels averaging 8,600 teu will already have been delivered…

First Voyage for CMA CGM Alexander Von Humboldt

CMA CGM Marco Polo's sistership, enters CMA CGM’s Asia - Europe Trade. The CMA CGM Group announced that the CMA CGM Alexander  Von  Humboldt, second of the world's largest and state of the art containership’s series, begins its first voyage today, Friday, April 19th in Pusan, South Korea. Built by DSME (Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering) in South Korea, this giant of the seas, owned by CMA CGM, displays exceptional dimensions: 396 meters long, 54 meters wide, with a draft of 16 meters and sails under the U.K. flag. In line with the sustainable development policy of the Group, the CMA CGM Alexander  Von  Humboldt  is equipped with all the latest environmental technologies.

GCS Adds New Feeder and Short-Sea Links

The Global Container Service Group (GCS) has added new feeder and short-sea links to the list of services calling at the NUTEP terminal in Novorossiysk. Both GCS and NUTEP are members of the Delo Group. X-Press Feeders has launched the BSX service to Novorossiysk, Odessa and other Black Sea ports by adding a vessel to Evergreen’s Black Sea feeder (BSF). Piraeus – Odessa – Constantza – Varna – Piraeus. Piraeus – Novorossiysk - Odessa – Constantza – Varna – Istanbul - Piraeus. Novorossisyk – Odessa – Evyap – Istanbul – Gemlik – Izmir – Alexandria – Ashdod - Haifa – Izmir – Istanbul – Gemlik – Evyap –Novorossisyk – Odessa. Now, Admiral is starting a second service, an Istanbul (Marport)/Novorossiysk shuttle, using the 508TEU Corsa. The first sailing is due to take place in late October.

CMA CGM Reshuffles ASIA-South Africa and Mozambique Services

CMA CGM announced the reshuffling of its services on the ASIA-South Africa and Mozambique trades in partnership with Maersk Line (ML). •    New SHAKA2: A service jointly operated by CMA CGM and Maersk Line with 8 vessels of 6,500Teus. The rotation includes: Shanghai, Ningbo, Fuzhou, Yantian, Tanjung Pelepas, Port Louis, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Ngqura, Port Louis, Singapore, Nansha New Port. •    New MOZEX2: A service jointly operated by CMA CGM and MAERSK Line with 7 vessels of 2,200Teus. The rotation will include Tanjung Pelepas, Port Kelang, Pointe Des Galets, Toamasina, Maputo, Beira, Nacala, Port Louis. These two new services will replace the current Shaka and Mozex services operated by CMA CGM.

CMA CGM Reshuffles Asia–USEC Services

CMA CGM announces the reshuffling of its services on the Asia – US East Coast trade. A service operated by CMA CGM with 11 vessels of 5 500 teus. A service operated by China Shipping, Evergreen and UASC with 9 vessels of 4 000 teus. The Columbus Suez service operated by CMA CGM and Maersk Line with 16 vessels of 8 100 teus remains unchanged. “The strengthening of our Asia / USEC loops means 3 departures a week and a wider geographical coverage.

CMA CGM announces the reshuffling of its Asia-West Med Services. CMA CGM announces the reshuffling of its services on the Asia-West Mediterranean trade in partnership with Maersk Line (ML). Rotation: Qingdao > Pusan > Shanghai > Ningbo > Yantian > Chiwan > Nansha > Tanjung Pelepas > Port Kelang > Malta > Valencia > Barcelona > Fos > Genoa > Malta > Port Said > Khorfakkan > Port Kelang > Singapore > Qingdao. Rotation: Xiamen > Shanghai > Ningbo > Yantian  > Nansha > Tanjung Pelepas > Port Kelang > Beirut > Malta > Valencia > Malaga > Tangiers > Port Said > Port Kelang > Singapore. These two new services will replace the MEX service currently operated by CMA CGM as well as the MEX2 (AE11) and the AE20 services operated by Maersk Line on the Asia-West Med Trade.
