CMA CGM Ships Lead Procession in the Suez Canal

Worldwide shipping group CMA CGM informs that two of its containerships are leading a vessel procession that celebrates the inauguration of the newly expanded Suez Canal on Thursday, August 6. The two vessels at the head of the procession, CMA CGM Laperouse and CMA CGM Titan, sail as part of 11 of CMACGM’s main shipping lines transiting by the Suez Canal. Eight percent of the world’s commercial maritime traffic goes through the Suez Canal, which represents an average of one CMA CGM vessel transiting in each direction daily, the shipper said.

Massive Containership Berths in Port New Orleans

1,066-Foot Ship Ties Record for Longest Container Ship to Berth at Port. At 1,066 feet long, Mediterranean Shipping Company’s MSC Judith arrived at the Port of New Orleans’ Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal Saturday tying the Port’s record for the longest container ship to berth in New Orleans. New Orleans Terminal worked the Panamanian-flagged container ship, which has a capacity of more than 8,000 twenty-foot-equivalent-units. While the Port has hosted ships with more TEU capacity, the ship is the longest container ship to berth at the Port by about 60 feet.

CMA CGM Reshuffles Services

CMA CGM announced a revised service between North Europe and South America East Coast as from mid-April which will consist of two loops as detailed below. This change will take place from Europe with SAFRAN1, m/v CAP SAN AGUSTIN eta Rotterdam April 16; and SAFRAN2, m/v MSC BARCELONA eta Antwerp April 15. CMACGM said the revision was made to help provide more efficient services to its customers.

CMA CGM Jules Verne Inaugurated by French President

CMA CGM Jules Verne, the world’s largest containership (16,000 twenty-foot equivalent units), and sailing under the French flag was officially inaugurated by French President François Hollande in Marseille, on June 4. The CMA CGM Jules Verne arrived on June 3 at Marseille for an exceptional call and was welcomed by thousands of local people and employees from CMA CGM’s Head Office. Her inauguration was a fitting celebration to mark the 35th anniversary of a Group that was founded in Marseille by Jacques R. Saadé in 1978.

Abeille Tows CMA CGM Marco Polo

The crew on the Abeille Bourbon successfully completed towing operations on the CMA CGM Marco Polo, the jewel in CMA CGM’s crown and the largest containership in the world (capable of carrying up to 16,020 TEUs(*)), as part of an exercise organized by the Atlantic French Maritime Prefecture.
