Dynamic Positioning Training Center Launched in Shanghai

C-MAR, an international marine and offshore services provider, and the Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) has officially launched the Dynamic Positioning training facility (DPC-SMU) at a special ceremony in Shanghai. In the first joint venture of its kind, C-MAR will provide dynamic positioning (DP) training to Chinese nationals and vessel operators in the offshore oil and gas sector, bringing the company’s extensive experience and expertise to the world’s fastest growing maritime sector.

Dual Accreditation for VSTEP DP Simulators

In a timespan of one month, three types of VSTEP Dynamic Positioning Simulators have been officially certified and accredited by the Nautical Institute and Det Norske Veritas (DNV-GL) certification bodies. The accreditation means the new NAUTIS Dynamic Positioning simulators from VSTEP are fully certified and approved to be used for official DP training courses. The accredited Dynamic Positioning Simulators were based on different DP control types and included both Class A and Class B type DP simulators.

The modern offshore maritime industry heavily relies on different classes of DP vessels, from OSVs to Drillships and Tankers, almost all vessels serving the oil and gas industry need to be DP capable in order to safely operate offshore. The massive growth experienced in Brazil due to the uncorking of huge deepwater pre-salt plays has caused a steady demand for new ships, rigs and vessels, maritime officers and DP operators in the country. Maritime Reporter’s correspondent in Brazil talks to Mauricio Santos, C-MAR Country Manager, about the reality of DP training in Brazil.
