Colle Towing Take Delivery of Marine Travelift

The family run business of Colle Towing Inc, who operate tugboats on the Pascagoula River, recently took delivery of its second Marine Travelift a new 600C boat hoist. The acquisition of the 600C machine means that Colle Towing will no longer have to operate a dry dock, which is much less efficient than the Marine Travelift operation. This is the second 600C boat hoist, which has been sold by Marine Travelift's dealer, H &E Equipment Services of Louisiana. Colle Towing currently own eight tugboats and has been providing tugboat services on the Pascagoula River for almost 130 years. Signet Acquires Colle Towing

Signet Maritime Corporation, a marine transportation and logistics company, continues to grow with their recent purchase of Colle Towing Company’s assets and business operations. Since 1878, Colle Towing Company Inc., Pasacagoula MS has been providing offshore, harbor and intracoastal marine towing on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Assets and personnel in Pascagoula will begin operations immediately under the new name, Colle Maritime Company, a Division of Signet Maritime Corporation.

Angola LNG, Colle Maritime 20 Yr Contract

Colle Maritime Company of Pascagoula Miss., a joint venture between Signet Maritime Corporation and Colle Towing Company, has been awarded a twenty-year contract to provide marine services to Angola LNG Supply Services LLC (ALSS) in the Port of Pascagoula, Miss. The agreement, to commence third quarter 2011, includes options to extend for up to ten additional years. Utilizing their combined expertise, the joint venture between Colle and Signet will construct two highly specialized terminal support/escort tugs that will each provide 80 metric tonnes of bollard pull.

Signet Maritime Corporation, vessel services & logistics providers, promote 31-year veteran  as General Manager, Traffic & Business Development. Previously Senior Manager of Traffic and Business Development for Signet’s Pascagoula Division, Porter will assume the responsibilities for vessel utilization, job direction and business revenue maximization for all seagoing fleet vessels in the Brownsville, Ingleside and Pascagoula divisions. A licensed Master of Towing, Porter joined Signet Maritime Corporation in 2010 when Signet acquired the business and assets of Colle Towing Company, Inc.

Colle Shipyard Contract, New ASD Tug

John H. Colle, Jr., President of Colle Towing Company, Inc., Pascagoula, Miss., announced that Signet Maritime Corporation has awarded a new-build contract to Colle Shipyard for construction of Signet Weatherly, a Robert Allan designed RAmparts 3200 105-ft x 38-ft by 17.7-ft ASD tug. The vessel will be built and classed to ABS Maltese Cross, AMS, Ocean Towing Service standards. She will be employed in Signet’s expanding US Gulf and overseas harbor, ship assist and ocean rig transport businesses.

RAstar Class Tugs for Angola LNG Contract

The Signet/Colle joint venture will construct two RAstar 3100 Class Terminal Support/Escort Tugs to fulfill this important contract. The tugs, designed by Robert Allan Ltd. of Vancouver, BC, will each provide 80 metric tonnes of bollard pull.

One Person Missing After Boat Capsized

The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for one person who ended up in the Pungo River near Hobucken, N.C. after a boat capsized. The 21-foot TowBoatUS vessel was towing a 47-foot recreational boat when the lead vessel capsized near the river entrance Thursday morning. Officials say and they are now searching the water for a 45-year-old TowBoatUS captain reported to be wearing coveralls, rubber boots and a lifejacket. Coast Guard crews aboard a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium and helicopter are searching on scene along with state and local partners…

OSD Rolls Out New Harbor Tug Design

Offshore Ship Designers (OSD) has launched a new tug design as part of its expanding portfolio of fuel-efficient vessels. The 390 gt Azistern 2870 harbor tug has a hard chine hull form which optimizes energy-saving during transit and results in a very low wash. It has a bollard pull of 70 metric tons and a maximum speed of 12 knots. Providing accommodation for six persons, it has an overall length of 28.3 m, and a breadth of 11.5 m. The Azistern 2870 has been designed with multiple deck equipment options, the installation of which are dependent on specific end-user preference.

Great Lakes Towing, Shipyard to Hire 100

The Great Lakes Towing Company and Great Lakes Shipyard have announced plans to hire 100 employees before the end of January 2018 to support continued growth driven by client demand. The company said it is seeking candidates to fill a wide range of positions, including shipyard welders, shipfitters and more. “At The Towing Company, we’re looking for great people to join our team,” said Joe Starck, the company’s president. Located in Cleveland, Ohio, The Towing Company is the owner and operator of the largest fleet of shipdocking tugboats on the U.S. Great Lakes-Saint Lawrence River Seaway.

NTSB Issues Report on 2016 Columbia River Bulker Grounding

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) issued a report on its investigation into the November 2016 grounding of the bulk carrier Nenita in the Columbia River. The Marshall Islands-flagged vessel was fully laden when it suffered an engine failure that impacted its ability to maneuver and subsequently ran aground at Three Tree Point on the Washington State side of the river. The ship’s bulbous bow and hull were damaged, but no injuries or pollution were reported. The vessel was towed to Longview, Wash.

Jensen Design Selected for NAVSEA Newbuild

Jensen Maritime Consultants, a Crowley company, said one of its workboat designs will be used by a Pacific Northwest boat builder to fulfill a construction project for the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). In support of the project, Jensen will supply a functional and regulatory design package for the 41-foot vessel, which will provide ship- and sub-assist services, as well as other port operational services at U.S. Navy port locations around the world. In 2005, Robert Allan Ltd will celebrate its 75th year of continuous business as a firm of Consulting Naval Architects. From its base in Vancouver, the company serves the international marine community with a wide range of specialized workboat designs, as it has done since its inception, through three generations of family ownership. The company has experienced considerable growth in the past decade, and currently has more than 30 vessels to its designs under construction around the world, including a myriad of high-performance tugboats of all types, fireboats, crewboats, patrol craft, ferries, and barges. Migrant Ship with Hundreds Aboard Heads for Italy

An Italian helicopter was flying to intercept a cargo ship believed to be carrying hundreds of migrants after it left Greek waters and headed towards Italy, according to a statement from the air force. The Moldovan-flagged ship, Blue Sky M, was spotted close to the coast of Corfu earlier in the day after authorities got an alarm call about a potential incident on board. Greek state television said the alarm had been raised because armed men were on board, but there was no confirmation from the defence or shipping ministries. Greek naval and coastguard vessels as well as a military helicopter were sent to the scene, but the ship was allowed to continue into international waters after the captain assured officials the situation was under control.

Sea Tow Awards New U.S. Franchises

Sea Tow Services International Inc., announced the opening of four new franchises: Sea Tow Buzzards Bay (Mass.), Sea Tow Montauk (N.Y.), Sea Tow Lake Eufaula (Ala.) and Sea Tow Lake Lewisville (Tx.). The company also announced the sale and transfer of ownership of three existing franchise areas. Captain Walter Garschagen is the new owner of Sea Tow Central Hudson (N.Y.), Jim and Jan Pulley are the new owners of Sea Tow Table Rock Lake (Mo.), and Capt. Frank Howell is the new owner of Sea Tow Orlando Lakes (Fla.). The new franchise owners for all of these locations were awarded certificates for their successful completion of the extensive Sea Tow training program, which includes both on-water and classroom instruction at the company’s corporate headquarters in Southold, N.Y.

Rogers Appointed President of Seabulk Towing

Seabulk International, Inc. announced the appointment of Kenneth M. Rogers as President of its Seabulk Towing subsidiary. He was also elected a corporate Senior Vice President, reporting directly to President and Chief Executive Officer Gerhard E. Kurz. Rogers, 46, joined Seabulk Towing in 2001 as Senior Vice President for Marketing. He will be based in Fort Lauderdale and succeeds William R. Ludt, who is retiring after 23 years with the Company. "Kenny Rogers is a proven leader who is well-known within the maritime industry," commented Kurz. "We are extremely pleased that he is taking the helm of our Towing operation, which is one of the largest in the Southeast.

Restraining Order Placed on Boat U.S.

A new contract was issued by Boat Owners Association of the U.S. (Boat U.S.) restricting its towing operators from also working with other towing associations. Vessel Assist Association of America filed a temporary restraining order against Boat U.S. The order prohibits Boat U.S. "Because it means more business, towing firms generally provide services to all mariners on behalf of any membership towing program," said Dave Peck, of Vessel Assist's Towing Department. However, the new Boat U.S.-Tow Provider contract stated tow firms could not contract to direct bill or accept payment from other membership towing programs. This leaves the mariner forced to pay on the spot for services or be declined by the towing provider.

Sieczka Joins Sea Tow

Michael J. Siecka recently joined Sea tow Services International as the Western Region corporate representative. He will coordinate Sea Tow activities in an effort to improve and expand Sea Tow’s presence on the west coast. He will be responsible for the recruitment of new franchisees, marketing and the development of relationships with marine retailers, boat dealers, marinas, trade associations and government agencies. Captain Joe Frohnhoefer, CEO and chairman of Sea Tow Services international sad, “We believe that the West Coast is an area that has great potential for the marine assistance towing industry and the Sea Tow system. Prior to joining Sea Tow International, Sieczka was Branch Manager for two food service companies and handled logistics, financials, sales, and marketing.

Sea Tow Announces New Delaware Bay Franchise
