Intellian, JRC Ink Partnership Deal

Intellian, a leader in maritime satellite communication antenna technology, and JRC, a world leading marine electronics manufacturer specialising in commercial navigation and communications equipment, recently announced a new partnership agreement. DigiGone Introduces DigiCrew Videoconferencing Service

DigiGone announced the introduction of a new videoconferencing service for crew welfare communications aboard ships at sea. The company’s new DigiCrew package enables the transmission of high-quality video via satellite, allowing crewmembers the freedom to see and communicate with family and friends ashore, no matter where their voyages take them. Marine communication and safety specialist Ocean Signal presents what they call the world’s smallest personal locator beacon at this year’s Seawork International, through U.K. distributors International Safety Products. Following receipt of certifications for use throughout Europe and the U.S. in April, the rescueME PLB1 is now available from Ocean Signal’s worldwide network of distributors. The easy-to-use, 116g rescueME PLB1, with dimensions of 77mm (height), 51mm (width) and 32.5mm (depth), is suited for a range of applications in the commercial market.

Jotron Group Merges All Norwegian Operations

The Jotron Group today announces that it will merge their Norwegian companies; Jotron AS, Jotron Phontech AS and Jotron SatCom AS. The name of the new company will be Jotron AS. Kongsberg Maritime has, as previously announced by the 2 companies in March 2012, already acquired 100% of the shares in Jotron Consultas AS. “This merger and the sales of Jotron Consultas AS, will allow Jotron to fully focus on our core businesses: communication products and systems for maritime, land and air applications.” says Magnus Vold, Managing Director of the “new” Jotron AS, “It will allow us to consolidate our sales, R&D and production resources to expand the business and better serve our customers worldwide.” Jotron AS will after the merger have annual turnover of 305 MNOK and 150 employees.

Thrane & Thrane Acquires EuroCom Industries

EMG EuroMarine Electronics GmbH sold its 88.6-percent stake in ECI EuroCom Industries A/S, Ålborg, Denmark to Denmark’s Thrane & Thrane A/S for approximately EUR 14 million. EuroCom Industries is among the leading suppliers of marine telecommunication electronics. With its workforce of 225, it generated in 2003 sales of EUR 47.5 million and, after the successful turnaround in 2003, an EBIT of EUR 4.6 million. By acquiring the majority stake in EuroCom Industries, Thrane & Thrane rounds off its portfolio of maritime communication products.

SatPoint Expands Marine Offering

The Swedish based company SatPoint AB recently acquired NSABs (Nordic Satellite AB) multi service platform for data and telecommunications in the maritime business sector. SatPoint develops stabilized VSAT terminals and supplies associated services as well as offers the multi service platform DaMax (Demand Assigned Multiple Access) from the Swedish Space Corporations teleport in Stockholm. NSABs President & CEO comments: - In our recent agreement, SatPoint acquired our marine platform and has become service provider for NSABs customers in the shipping industry. SatPoint has proven to supply a competitive service package by their integration of advantageous financing solutions and technically advanced satellite transmission services for the shipping sector.

Answering the Call From Above

Selecting a "Technology-of-the-Year" for the June 2002 Yearbook edition of Maritime Reporter & Engineering News was no small task, and a decidedly unscientific one, at that. There were no editorial boards, voting slips, gala dinners or plaques.
