"Port of the Future" Announces Comms Awards

The Borders, Trade, and Immigration Institute, a Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence, led by the University of Houston, announced the creation of the annual Port of the Future Award for “Excellence in Port Communications and Community Relations.”  Each year, this award will be presented at the annual Port of the Future Conference, held the first week of April, in Houston, Texas. Finalists may be invited to participate on the Conference panel “Port Communications and Community Relations.”  This year’s Port of the Future Conference will be held April 2-4…

Videotel Training Film Wins Media Award

Videotel, the international provider of e-Learning maritime training solutions and a company of KVH Industries, Inc., has received a Golden Reel Award from the Media Communications Association-International (MCA-I) in recognition of a training video that Videotel created for ExxonMobil Marine. Called "Cold Corrosion Insights," the video was produced for ExxonMobil Marine and explores the harmful effects of acid corrosion in ships' engines, which can reduce the lifespan of an engine by up to 90% in some cases.

AAPA Recognizes 34 Ports

Thirty-one ports received 56 Communications awards, and four ports were recognized for outstanding Environmental programs during the October 3 awards luncheon at the American Association of Port Authorities' (AAPA) Annual Convention in Québec City, Québec. AAPA's Annual Communications Competition recognizes excellence in the products and services that ports produce to meet their public relations and marketing goals. The independent judges, communications professionals from the Washington, D.C., area, honored the best entries with 38 awards of excellence and 18 awards of merit. The winner of the Award of Overall Excellence was the Port of Portland, Oregon, which received awards of excellence or merit for five entries.

TMCA Announces Annual Conference

The Transportation Marketing & Communications Association (TMCA) announces that its eighth annual conference and educational forum will be held May 2-4, 2004, at the Miramonte Resort, near Palm Springs, Calif. The 2004 Conference theme, "Creating The Edge," will help professionals leverage marketing, sales and communications strategies in order for their organizations to be more competitive in the marketplace. This event will feature a broad agenda of interactive sessions, workshops, and presentations supported by a unique line-up of keynote speakers, session presenters and facilitators for mid- to upper-level marketing and communications professionals.

AAPA Presents Awards

Thirty-two ports received 60 Communications awards, two ports won awards for information technology projects, and five ports were recognized for outstanding Environmental programs during the September 25 awards luncheon at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida, during the American Association of Port Authorities’ (AAPA) 91st Annual Convention. In addition, five maritime professionals earned Professional Port Manager (PPM7) Certification from AAPA. AAPA’s Annual Communications Competition recognizes excellence in the products and services that ports produce to meet their public relations and marketing goals. The independent judges, communications professionals from the Washington, D.C. area, honored the best entries with 30 awards of excellence and 30 awards of merit.
