Adani Ports, the largest private ports and logistics company in India, said it has reached a deal to acquire a 100% stake in India’s largest third-party marine services provider Ocean Sparkle Ltd. (OSL).OSL, which provides towage, pilotage, and dredging services, has an asset base of 94 owned vessels and 13 third-party owned vessels, and a team of 1,800 personnel. It is present in all the major ports, 15 minor ports and all three liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals in India, and also operates in Oman, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Qatar, Yemen and Africa.

Iraq agreed a $2.625 billion deal with South Korea’s Daewoo Engineering & Construction on Wednesday to build the first phase at its planned Faw commodities port in the south of the country.Under the contract, signed in Baghdad by representatives of Iraq’s transportation ministry and the South Korean company, Daewoo E&C will handle construction work including building five berths to unload ships and a yard for containers.Daweoo will also carry out dredging and drilling works to create an access navigation channel, Farhan al-Fartousi, Iraq’s director general at the General Company for Ports, tol

Taiwanese ocean shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. (YM) has announced the launch of CMS service (China-Malaysia service) with effect on February 23rd, 2019 (estimated time of berth from Qingdao).The service is jointly operated by Yang Ming, Gold Star Line Ltd.(GSL), T.S. Lines Co., Ltd (TSL) and CNC, a brand of APL Co. Pte Ltd. Each carrier will deploy a container vessel of nominal 4,250 TEU capacity, said a statement from the marine transportation company.The ports of call are Qingdao, Shanghai, Xiamen, Nansha, Port Kelang, Penang, Port Kelang, Pasir Gudang, Shekou, Hong Kong, Qingdao. A round trip will take 28 days.In addition to the Intra-Asia deployment of more than 35 services, YM continues to strengthen its service network.

The JSC Aston, one of Russia's largest producers of foodstuffs and ingredients, and is a leading exporter of agricultural goods and vegetable oils, has signed the contracts with two Chinese shipyards for a construction of 4 ships. A press release stated that  out of the series of 10 modern ships Aston planned, these four will be with a dead weight of 8000 ton — that is the maximal limit to enter the Don ports. On 9 October 2017, Orest Sychenikov, first Head of Novorossiysk Shipping Company, passed away at the age of 95. On 9 October 2017, we lost a highly educated man, a talented leader who made a massive contribution to the strengthening and development of Russian maritime navigation. Orest Sychenikov was born on 28 June 1922. In 1941, he was called up to the Red Army to fight in the Second World War, during which was seriously wounded in 1943. Following demobilization in September 1945, Orest was accepted into the Department of Marine Engineering at the Odessa Institute of Marine Fleet Engineers.

International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) formally opened the first phase of its new greenfield terminal development at its Basra Gateway Terminal in the North Port, Umm Qasr, Iraq. The official inauguration of the new facility marks the implementation of the first entirely foreign financed development of new port infrastructure in Iraq. The Hon. Minister of Transport for Iraq, Kadhem Finjan al-Hamami was in attendance as Enrique K. Razon Jr, ICTSI Chairman and President, formally cut the ribbon, symbolizing the opening of the terminal after which the first container was lifted by one of the two new ship-to-shore cranes installed at the terminal. A few months ago the Essar Group from India decided to buy back the shares from her daughter company Essar Ports Limited (EPL). Port of Antwerp International (PAI), the international consulting and investment subsidiary of Antwerp Port Authority, set up an alliance in 2012 with EPL, which was accompanied by an investment of 25 million euros, five million of which was contributed by the Flemish Regional Investment Company (FRIC). PAI and FRIC have come out of the existing financial arrangement with a capital gain of 6.8 million euros on top of their original investment, which has been recovered in full. In the meantime the collaboration with EPL will continue unabated in other areas.

Terex Port Solutions (TPS) has received an order from a subsidiary of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) in Iraq for two Terex shiptoshore cranes (STS) and three Terex rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTG). With this order including comprehensive services, TPS and ICTSI, a leading global port operator, are writing the next chapter in the history of their successful cooperation. Previously TPS has supplied 24 RTG to three different terminals operated by ICTSI in Madagascar, the Philippines and Brazil. The new cranes are destined for the Basra Gateway Terminal in the port of Umm Qasr and will be handed over to ICTSI for commercial operation in the second quarter of 2016. country.

Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari has said that the decline observed in the performance of Major Ports from 2008 to 2014 has reversed and they have shown improvement in their performance in 2015. Shri Gadkari said the profit margins of Major Ports declined from 43% to 28% during 2008 to 2014 and the market share of Major Ports during the period declined from 72% to 57%. International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) has paid $5.8 million for the remaining 10 percent of Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) it doesn’t own that was held by Anglo Ports. ICTSI now fully controls VICT, who in 2014 signed a $509m agreement to design, build, commission, operate, maintain and finance the Port of Melbourne’s new international container terminal. The new container terminal is part of Melbourne’s us$1.5 billion port capacity project, which the port believes is vital for economic growth in the Australian state of Victoria. Meanwhile, Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT), a wholly-owned subsidiary of ICTSI Inc., said operations at the Port of Umm Qasr in Iraq are now in full swing.

Terex Port Solutions (TPS) will supply Libra Terminais Rio S/A (Libra) with 12 Terex® rubber-tyred gantry cranes. They are to be delivered in the fall of 2014 to the Libra terminal in the Bay of Rio de Janeiro. The company operates ports in Rio and Santos and ispart of the Libra Group, a leading Brazilian logistics corporation. The cranes will be shipped to Rio, already assembled, from the TPS plant in Xiamen, PR China. Genoa, March 14 2011 – Costa Cruises, the largest Italian travel group and Europe’s no.1 cruise company, has confirmed its undisputed leadership in the Mediterranean; this region, which enjoys one of the highest growth rates in the global cruise industry, will be the focus of attention at Seatrade Cruise Shipping Miami 2011. It is estimated that this year, with about 2,800 calls in 92 destinations,  there will be almost 9 million passenger movements in Mediterranean ports for the ships in the Costa fleet, all of which are Italian-flagged; this amounts to a 33% increase compared to 2010.

With a total of eight dredgers delivered in two years, Izar consolidates its position in the construction of these technologically sophisticated ships. Gijón has recently delivered two other dredges for the fFrench company Dragages Ports, of with 5,000 cu. m. and 8,500 cu. m. of capacity. Over the last two years, Izar has built dredgers of several sizes at its shipyards in Gijón and Sestao. The biggest ones, the Kaishuu and the Juan Sebastian Elcano, with a capacity of 16,000 cu. m. each were built at Sestao Shipyard which also built the Filippo de Brunelleschi, and the Francis Beaufort with a capacity of 11,500 cu.

Liebherr reports that there has been a positive trend in the heavy lift crane segement, a sentiment confirmed by a number of significant contracts recorded of late, including a contract for the delivery of six heavy lift ship cranes for the German shipping company Rickmers. Four of the heavy lift cranes are type CBB 4700 with a lifting capacity of 450 tons and the remaining two are type CBB 3450 with a lifting capacity of 120 tons. The six heavy lift cranes are being built by Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH and will be delivered in 2014.

Successful launch ceremonies for DOHUK and KARBALA by IHC Merwede. IHC Merwede has successfully launched the 500m3 grab hopper dredger, DOHUK, and the 3,500m3 trailing suction hopper dredger, KARBALA, in two ceremonies on 25 July 2012 at the company’s shipyard in Krimpen aan den IJssel, The Netherlands. The DOHUK was launched early in the morning, followed later by the ceremony for the KARBALA. The vessels were named by breaking a jar of yoghurt over the bow. They are being built for Toyota Tsusho Corporation, although the operator will be the General Company for Ports of Iraq (GCPI).

APM Terminals is entering the Russian market in a strategic partnership with the leading Russian transportation group, N-Trans. By acquiring 37.5 pct. of the public company Global Ports, APM Terminals becomes an equal controlling partner in the leading operator of container terminals in Russia. Up until now, N-Trans has been the sole controlling shareholder of Global Ports with 75 pct. ownership. The transaction values Global Ports approximately at USD 2.3-billion, making APM Terminals’ share acquisition the largest foreign direct investment in Russia’s transportation industry to date. PD Ports, a UK ports & logistics business based in Middlesbrough, confirmed that it is under new ownership, following the sale of 100% of its equity to Canadian-based Brookfield Asset Management. The sale was part of a broader transaction with Babcock & Brown Infrastructure (BBI) in which Brookfield, as the cornerstone investor, led a recapitalisation of BBI.   Brookfield has formed a new holding company Brookfield Ports (UK) Ltd to complete the purchase of PD Ports.  BBI was the previous owner of PD Ports from early 2006 until now.
