WSM, Affinity Shipping Team on Emission Reporting

Wilhelmsen Ship Management (WSM) and Affinity Shipping signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish an independent company that will provide compliance services related to the EU ETS (European Union Emission Trading System).When created, the company’s offering is envisioned to be the first of its kind, offering a complete outsourcing service for shipping ETS management. The service integrates technical ship management and carbon allowance procurement to support shipowners, managers, and operators in the new era of emissions compliance.

MAC to provide Marine Assurance Services for Chrysaor

Maritime Assurance & Consulting (MAC), a Bureau Veritas company, has won a contract from Chrysaor for marine assurance services. The contract also includes engineering, DP assurance, marine warranty surveying (MWS), project assurance and compliance services. Chrysaor is focused on the development and commercialization of dormant oil and gas discoveries and incremental reserves. The company acquired stakes in 10 North Sea fields from Shell last year and was recently granted acreage in the UK’s 30th licensing round.

IEEE Honors Retlif Testing Laboratories

Independent Electromagnetic Compatibility testing (EMC) and Environmental Simulation testing (ESS) company Retlif Testing Laboratories said it has received an award from technical professional organization the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Ronkonkoma, N.Y. based Retlif, a longtime provider of strategic compliance services to the marine and maritime sector, was cited as a “Friend of the IEEE Long Island Section” and received a commemorative plaque for providing financial assistance, consultative advice and for hosting EMC Society events over the years.

ABS Wins Great Lakes Towing SubM Contract

ABS said it has been awarded a Third Party Organization (TPO) contract by The Great Lakes Towing Company (GLT) to support compliance with the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Subchapter M regulations. “Every organization operating towing vessels in U.S. inland waterways will have to comply with Subchapter M,” said ABS Americas Division President Jamie Smith. The recently signed contract with GLT, which is a member of the American Waterways Operators (AWO), establishes ABS as the company’s TPO, providing surveys for its fleet and audits of its Responsible Carrier Program (RCP).

ChartCo Acquires Docmap

ChartCo, provider of maritime digital data and compliance services, said it has expanded its range of integrated marine solutions with the acquisition of the at-sea digital document management company Docmap. Oslo-based Docmap AS was founded in 2005 and provides solutions within the health, safety, environmental and quality (HSEQ) operations on vessels and ashore. Its recently launched Docmap 8 software operates both shore side and on board through standard web browsers and incorporates modules for audit control and risk assessment, and works alongside customers’ continuous improvement programs. Docmap 8 can be supplied either off the shelf with best in class functionality, or customized to suit individual company requirements.

Marine, offshore and engineering consultancy Global Maritime Consultancy & Engineering has appointed Espen Thomassen as Regional Manager for the Americas. Thomassen has been tasked with growing Global Maritime’s business throughout the region, which, in addition to Houston, includes offices in Brazil and Canada. He will also lead Global Maritime’s involvement in providing Sub Chapter M compliance services to inland waterways towing vessels throughout the US. Sub Chapter M represents new U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) standards on the inspection, standards and safety policies of towing vessels.

USCG Approves Global Maritime as TPO for Subchapter M Services
