Jan De Nul Launches Low Emission Vessel
Jan De Nul Group launched its fourth Ultra-Low Emission vessel last week in Singapore. It concerns the 6,000 m³ Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger Sanderus built at the Keppel Offshore & Marine shipyard.This green vessel is the first of two identical medium-sized hopper dredgers under construction at Keppel O&M’s shipyard in Singapore, fitted with a two-stage filtering technique for exhaust gases.In total, Jan De Nul Group designed six Ultra-Low Emission vessels (ULEvs) for its fleet: five Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers and one Offshore Jack-Up Installation Vessel, the Voltaire.
Yara Marine's MARPOL Test Successful
Norway-based emissions control technology company Yara Marine Technologies announced the successful installation of an inline hybrid scrubber system for an undisclosed customer in the ultra-large container segment."This is the biggest ship engine ever to be successfully fitted with an inline hybrid scrubber system," said a press release from the company that offers a complete SOx and NOx product portfolio to the marine segment.The project marks an important milestone in expanding areas where shipowners can achieve full and cost-efficient IMO compliance with SOx scrubbers.

Austal’s latest contract announcement for two 117 metre high speed vehicle passenger ferries, for Fred Olsen SA, not only sends a strong signal to the international market that ‘fast ferries are back’, but confirms Austal’s proven trimaran hull design as the most cost effective and highly capable vessel platform to deliver superior seakeeping and schedule performance. The €126million Euro (A$190million) contract, announced at Interferry 2017 in Split Croatia represents Fred Olsen SA’s largest ever ferry order.
Kongsberg Wins EPCI Contract for LNG-fueled RoPax Ferry Newbuild
Kongsberg Maritime said it has been awarded an Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI) contract with Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG), a subsidiary of Siem Group. This is the second RoPax contract that Kongsberg Maritime has been awarded at FSG. The ‘Full Picture’ contract, valued at approximately €20 million ($23 million), covers engineering, procurement and project management, maritime technology deliveries and installation on a LNG fuelled RoPax Ferry for French company Brittany Ferries Ltd.
Crowley’s Busch Joins Sea Machines’ Board
Todd Busch, Sr. Vice President & General Manager, Technical Services, at Crowley Maritime, has joined Sea Machines Robotics’ board of directors. The Boston-based Sea Machines is building autonomous control technology for commercial vessels. Busch, who joined Crowley in 1987 as an ordinary seaman, is currently responsible for naval architecture and marine engineering, government services, ship management, marine salvage and wreck removal, new-vessel construction and the chartering and operations of Crowley’s offshore tug and barge fleet.
New Motion Compensated Gangway Unveiled
Barge Master and Bosch Rexroth have jointly introduced a new motion compensated gangway to the offshore wind market. After numerous simulations and virtual tests, the first actually manufactured gangway is currently being tested onshore at the Bosch Rexroth facilities in Boxtel, the Netherlands. On June 21 this location was transformed into a presentation area, where the visitors were informed about the partnership between the two companies, and allowed to have a close look at the complex technology on the demonstrated gangway.

Canadian Coast Guard Fleet Modernization Underway
ABB said it will modernize 10 out of 14 Medium Icebreakers and High Endurance Multi Task Canadian Coast Guard ships to extend operational life of the vessels by another 20 years. “For more than 75 years ABB has been working at the cutting edge of icebreaker technology and we are delighted to bring this expertise to these Canadian Coast Guard ships,” said Jyri Jusslin, Senior Vice President of ABB Global Marine & Ports Service.
