Hyundai Heavy Industries Gets Cyber Security-Ready Notation from ABS

LR Approves HMD Cargo Handling System for LNG Bunker Vessel

Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) has received approval in principle (AiP) from Lloyd’s Register (LR) for a cargo handling system design for a 6,600 m³ LNG bunkering vessel. HMD and the Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Corporate Research Center jointly developed the cargo handling system design based on their extensive experience of building gas carriers. LR Grants AIP for S-CO2 Power Generation System

The world’s largest shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and a utility firm Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) have received an Approval in Principle (AIP) from Lloyd’s Register for a 2MW Supercritical CO2 (S-CO2) Power Generation System recovering waste heat of a diesel/gas engine. S-CO2 is a fluid state of carbon dioxide where it is held above its critical pressure and critical temperature which causes the supercritical state to go beyond liquid or gas into a phase where it acts as both. Husain appointed ABB’s CTO

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has appointed Bazmi Husain as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), effective January 1, 2016. Husain, an expert in power and automation who has been with ABB for more than 30 years, will report to CEO Ulrich Spiesshofer. Husain is currently Managing Director of ABB India Ltd. In his new role, he will be based in Bangalore, India, with an office in Switzerland. His successor will be announced in due course. As Chief Technology Officer, Husain will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of ABB’s global R&D, which serves the entire company, its scientists and engineers, and for the R&D activities within ABB’s divisions.

Teledyne Opens Technology Development Center

Teledyne Oil & Gas, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated, announced today that it held a Grand Opening celebration of its new 52,000-square-foot Technology Development Center in Daytona Beach. The Technology Development Center is a high-tech research and new product development center to bring forward engineered solutions to complex technical challenges, primarily for the offshore oil and gas production and exploration industries. The Honorable Rick Scott, Governor of Florida, provided opening remarks for the building, along with Dr. Robert Mehrabian, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated, and other industry executives. This new center is expected to add over 100 new jobs to the local community.
