Costa Concordia: Lawyers Maintain Owners Criminally Liable
Ronai & Ronai, LLP, a New York law firm that represents victims, including Sandor Feher, a musician who lost his life while trying to evacuate passengers, believes that the criminality of the deaths should also be placed on Costa Crociere/Carnival Corp., which was able to escape criminal liability simply because of their ability to pay a monetary fine. On July 20, 2013, five crew members of the Costa Concordia cruise ship were convicted of manslaughter for their role in the shipwreck in January 2012, which resulted in the deaths of 32 people.
Five Convicted for Costa Concordia Shipwreck
Five employees of an Italian cruise company for the Costa Concordia shipwreck that killed 32 crew and passengers were convicted in an Italian court on Saturday after it accepted their plea bargains. The longest sentence went to the crisis coordinator for Costa Crociere SpA, the cruise company, who was sentenced to two years and 10 months. Concordia's hotel director was sentenced to two years and six months while two bridge officers and a helmsman got sentences ranging from one year and eight months to one year and 11 months.
Attorneys Press US$400-million Claim Against Cruise Company
New York law firm Ronai & Ronai file a compensation claim on behalf of a victim of the 'Costa Concordia' shipwreck. The federal lawsuit has been filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York on behalf of the family of Hungarian violinist Sandor Feher, seeking $400 million in damages for gross negligence against the cruise ship companies, Carnival PLC, Carnival Corporation and Costa Crociere, S.P.A. Costa Victoria in for a Facelift at Lloyd Werft
Radical changes are imminent for Costa Victoria, one of the nine members currently comprising the Costa Crociere fleet. On January 6, next year, at the end of her New Year's Eve cruise, the ship will leave the port of Savona bound for Bremerhaven in Germany, where it will arrive after 5 days at sea and undergo work at the Lloyd Werft shipyard. During Costa Victoria's stay in the yard, which will last approximately 30 days, it will be dry-docked for routine maintenance work, which is performed regularly every two years on all the company's vessels. Costa Crociere Orders a Cruise Ship
Costa Crociere -- a member of the Carnival Corporation & plc group -- has doubled its order with Fincantieri, reaching an agreement to build the Costa Concordia’s new sistership, a 112,000-ton, 475 million euro ship. The new order will also help offset the sale of the Costa Tropicale to P&O Cruises Australia. The will be built in the Fincantieri shipyard in Sestri Ponente (Genoa). It is scheduled to be delivered in the spring of 2007. The new Concordia class ship ordered by Costa Crociere, which has yet to be named, will allow Costa Crociere to maintain its leadership in Europe in terms of capacity and to set a company record as Europe’s most modern fleet.
Fincaniteri Delivers Costa Serena: The God’s Ship

Costa Serena was delivered by Fincantieri at its Sestri Ponente shipyard in Genoa. Like her sister ship Costa Concordia, which entered service in July 2006, the Costa Serena is the largest passenger ship flying the Italian flag and the largest European liner in terms of capacity: 114,000 gross tonnage, 292 meters in length and accommodation for up to 3780 Guests in 1500 cabins. “The delivery of the Costa Serena,” announced Costa Crociere SpA Group Chairman & CEO Pier Luigi Foschi, “fills us with great pride and satisfaction.
Cruise Industry Set to Increase Jobs in Europe
The growing popularity of cruise vacations and European shipyards’ dominance of global cruise ship orders is set to have a major impact on jobs, wealth creation and inbound tourism in Europe, according to the results of a “European Cruise Contribution” report released at a major conference in Brussels. “This is the first time that figures have been available to demonstrate the full economic value and scale of the total cruise industry in Europe,” said Mr Pier Luigi Foschi, chairman of the European Cruise Council (ECC) and chairman and chief executive officer of Costa Crociere SpA. The ECC commissioned the report together with Euroyards, MedCruise and Cruise Europe.
Costa Crociere Confirms Options with Fincantieri for New Ship
The Italian company Costa Crociere SpA, announced has exercised an option with Fincantieri for the construction of a new 92,700 gross tonnage cruise ship. The new ship, which is scheduled for delivery in March 2010, will be built at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard, at an all-in cost of approximately 420 million euros. The vessel will have 2,260 lower passenger berths and a total of 1,130 cabins, 772 (68%) of which with private verandas, this being the highest percentage of veranda cabins in the whole Costa fleet. She will be the sister ship of another 92,700-tonner, already announced, also to be built in Marghera and scheduled to enter service in spring 2009.
COSTA Ships Debut in Dubai
Starting from December 2006 the Italian Costa Crociere SpA, which operates the brands AIDA Cruises and Costa Crociere, will be offering cruises with departures from Dubai (United Arab Emirates). The official announcement was made during a series of official meetings, set to take place in Dubai on February 1 and 2, 2006, between a delegation from Costa Crociere – headed by Costa Crociere SpA Chairman & CEO Pier Luigi Foschi, Costa Crociere President Gianni Onorato, and AIDA Cruises SVP Operations Michael Ungerer – and political and administrative leaders from the United Arab Emirates, Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Deputy Chairman of DP World, and Khalid bin Sulayem, Director General of the DTCM (Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing).
Costa Crociere Receives Yacht Design Award
Pier Luigi Foschi, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Costa Crociere Spa, was on hand at the Yacht Club Italiano in Genoa to collect the prize awarded to the Genoese company for the construction of the Costa Fortuna, the new 105,000 gross tonnage vessel due to enter into service at the end of 2003, which will be the largest cruise ship ever to fly the Italian flag. On October 11, the Yacht Club Italiano in Genoa was the venue for the “Yacht Design Award 2002”, presented to leading figures, shipyards and shipping companies that have made outstanding contributions to seafaring through pleasure vessels and cruise ships based on cutting-edge technology and design.
