Meyer Turku Delivers Costa Smeralda

Costa Cruises and the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority have reopened the Calata delle Vele cruise ship quay and Palocrociere Terminal One in Italy’s port of Savona following an extensive renovation.The ceremony was attended by the city's mayor, Ilaria Caprioglio, the Liguria Region president, Giovanni Toti, the president of the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority, Paolo Emilio Signorini, and the president of Costa Cruises Neil Palomba. Costa Smeralda Delivery Delayed Again

Cruise Ships in French Waters Agree to Pollute Less

The main cruise ship operators in French waters have agreed on measures to limit pollution caused by their vessels, including hooking up to the power grid instead of keeping their engines running during stopovers.The "Blue Charter" agreement signed in Marseille by Costa Cruises, MSC Cruises, Royal Carribean Cruises and Ponant also pledged to use less-polluting fuel when manoeuvring in harbours as well as other measures to reduce emissions.The four signatories transport 95% of the passengers and account for 85% of the stopovers in Marseille…

AIDAperla Receives Corvus Battery System

The steel cutting ceremony of the second Costa Cruises ship build at Meyer Turku commenced with new traditions: The brand new plasma cutter line was used for the first time in a production start ceremony.Costa Cruises’ Costa Toscana will be the first ship benefiting fully from the new panel line of Meyer Turku. Shipbuilding: Meyer Turku Growth Continues

Meyer Turku Group reported a turnover of €969.7 million for 2018, up from €808.2 million the year prior. The Finnish shipbuilder, which recorded €29 million in profits for 2018, said its financial figures indicate a good, steady company growth.“We are on a good path to meet the goals we have set,” said Meyer Turku CEO, Jan Meyer. “We need to, however, double our production in the next four years to meet the demands in our order book.”In 2018 Meyer Turku delivered one ship, New Mein Schiff 1, to German TUI Cruises, and New Mein Schiff 2 was handed over to the same owner in January 2019.

Shipyard Fire at Meyer Turku

A fire broke out on board a cruise ship currently being built at Finland's Meyer Turku Shipyard, the shipbuilder said on Monday.Welding operations reportedly sparked a fire to stored equipment on deck 15 inside the Costa Smeralda at approximately 4:45 p.m. local time, forcing workers to evacuate the vessel, the shipbuilder said.The shipyard's firefighters were the first on scene and started firefighting measures, followed shortly after by local responders. The blaze was extinguished quickly and work on board was able to resume by 6:15 p.m.

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri hosted a float-out ceremony for a new cruise ship under construction for Carnival Corporation’s Italian brand Costa Cruises. Stable Year for Marseille Fos Port

French cargo and cruise port Marseille Fos had a relatively stable year in 2018 with traffic of more than 81 million tonnes, up 1%.The performances included a seventh consecutive year of growth in container traffic, which rose 2% for 1.4 million teu, and a 12% increase in dry bulks at 15.2MT. Meanwhile cruise numbers leapt 15% to 1.7 million passengers.Infrastructure development and maintenance spending of €60 million featured further logistics park expansion. Alongside this, agreements were reached on major industrial implantations.
