Cruise West Executives Lead Yearlong Voyage

Underscoring the significance of Cruise West’s series of journeys that combine to form the worldwide exploration concept, Voyages of the Great Explorers, the West family will host Voyages 1, 10 and 24. In addition, 25-year cruise veteran, President and CEO Dietmar Wertanzl will lead Voyage 13. Guests can anticipate notable hosted special events in addition to the already included excursions. Detillion CFO, Ambassadors International

Ambassadors International, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMIE), announced that Mark Detillion has joined the company March 23 and will become the company's Chief Financial Officer effective April 1, 2009. Detillion has expertise which includes performance and profitability analysis, and venture funding. For the past eight years Mr. Detillion served as the vice president of finance and chief financial officer for Cruise West in Seattle, WA. Prior to Cruise West he spent several years as the chief financial officer for Shilo Inns in Portland, OR. He also served as the director of finance for Holland America Lines. Detillion holds a B.A. in Accounting from the University of Washington and is a certified public accountant in the State of Washington. Ambassadors International, Inc.

Cruise West Awarded Entries into Nat’l Park

Cruise West, the small-ship exploration cruise line, has been awarded by the National Park Service eight cruise ship entries to Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. The cruise line also holds two tour vessel permits that allows 105 entries of its smaller vessels. This is the highest number of tour vessel entries allocated to one cruise line. “Cruise West is unique as we hold both kinds of ship permits – a cruise ship permit for the Spirit of Oceanus (over 100 tons), and a tour vessel permit for the remainder of our fleet (ships under 100 tons), said Chairman and Managing Director Dick West. Seven of Cruise West’s ten Alaska cruise itineraries ply the waters of UNESCO World Heritage Site Glacier Bay National Park.

Navy to Christen Submarine New Mexico

The Navy christened its newest attack submarine, New Mexico, Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, during a 10 a.m. EST ceremony at Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding, Newport News, Va. Rep. Heather A. Wilsonof New Mexico delivered the ceremony's principal address. Designated SSN 779, New Mexico is named in recognition of the people of the 'Land of Enchantment'. The submarine began construction under a unique teaming arrangement between Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding and General Dynamics Electric Boat in 2004. The battleship New Mexico (BB-40) (1918-1946), the only other ship named after the 47th state, earned six battle stars for World War II service, which included providing shore bombardment support for landings in the Gilbert and Marshall Islands, and at Guam, Tinian, Saipan, the Philippines and Okinawa.

Cruise West – New River Itinerary

Cruise West, now the only cruise operator on the river, is extending the Columbia & Snake Rivers cruise season through the summer with a new itinerary on the Spirit of '98. As bookings for the river itineraries continue to rise, Cruise West will stay and operate a new summer itinerary rather than send the Spirit of '98 to for the summer season. More Changes for WSDOT Ferries Division

WSDOT Ferries Division Assistant Secretary David Moseley announced the resignation of his second in command, Traci Brewer-Rogstad. Ms. Brewer-Rogstad rose through the ranks at the ferry system and has served the past two years as Deputy Director and Chief of Staff. As Deputy Director, Traci Brewer-Rogstad has had overall responsibility for maintaining and ensuring a safe and reliable level of service for the nation’s largest ferry system. Other positions she held at ferries since she first began in 1997 are: Director of Operations; Assistant Director of Operations; Regional Manager; and Area Terminal Manager. Before coming to the ferry system, Brewer-Rogstad worked as a Regional Service Manager and Hotel General Manager for Cruise West, a local small ship cruising company.

Silversea Appoints Tom Russell As Senior VP

Ultra-luxury Silversea Cruises announced that it is expanding its executive team with the appointment of Tom Russell as its new senior vice president of product development. He will join the company on October 14 and will be based in the Fort Lauderdale office. His appointment follows on the heels of the line's recent purchase of the expedition ship World Discoverer. While Russell will coordinate a variety of major projects and initiatives across departments, his primary focus will be to oversee the establishment of the new luxury expeditionary cruise product, having responsibility for its design, deployment and itinerary development. Russell is no stranger to Silversea.

Cruise West to Refurbish Spirit of Yorktown

Cruise West will refurbish and upgrade the 138-guest Spirit of Yorktown in fall 2007. Four Balcony category cabins will be created that will include private teak-floored balconies with enough room for a café table and chairs for two. Numerous additional upgrades will be completed throughout the ship, including redecoration and renovation of public corridors, lobby areas, and the panoramic Observation Lounge, the ship’s Living Room. Updates will be completed in November and December, just in time for the first Sea of Cortés Holiday cruise departing December 22, 2007. The combined cost of all renovations is approximately $2m. Coast Guard Assists Spirit of Columbia

Coast Guard Sector Anchorage responded to a call from the cruise ship Spirit of Columbia after it ran aground on the east side of Evans Island in Latouche Passage, near Whittier on Sunday. There were 51 passengers and 21 crew members on board with no reported injuries. No pollution was reported, and no hull breach occurred. The Coast Guard Cutter Sycamore from Cordova, and two HH-60 helicopters and a C-130 aircraft from Kodiak were deployed to assist. Spirit of Columbia reported no damage had occurred and Coast Guard air assets were released from scene. The Coast Guard Cutter Sycamore escorted the Spirit of Columbia back to Whittier. Weather conditions on scene at the time of the grounding were 2 - 4 ft. seas and visibility at 4 - 6 miles.

Cruise West Names Petrone Chief Marketing Officer

Cruise West, the largest American-owned cruise line and leader in small-ship cruising, has announced Al Petrone as its Chief Marketing Officer. Petrone has been a consultant for Cruise West since September 2006 as the line’s interim vice president of marketing and will now assume this permanent position. As chief marketing officer, Petrone will oversee Cruise West’s sales, marketing, public relations, reservations and product development teams. Petrone has garnered extensive experience in the travel and hospitality industries. Prior to joining Cruise West, Petrone was the chief marketing officer for Noble House Hotels and Resorts. He had previously held senior marketing and operating positions with W Hotels, Sheraton and Ian Schrager Hotels, as well as General Electric and Pepsi Cola.

First Choice Sells Ships, Completes INTRAV Buy

First Choice Holidays PLC has sold two coastal cruising ships to Cruise West, a US family owned small-ship cruise line for $16.7 million. The two ships were amongst the four cruise ships acquired as part of First Choice's purchase of US-based leisure travel group INTRAV, the acquisition of which the company has completed. The net consideration for the purchase of INTRAV, including the sale of the two ships, is $46.8 million. The two ships that First Choice is retaining have a market value of almost $30 million and generated revenues of $24.3 million in the 12 months to December 31. (Source: www.forbes.com)

Cruise West Announces Adds Ships, Itineraries

Cruise West announced that it has acquired the Yorktown Clipper and the Nantucket Clipper previously part of the Clipper Cruise Line fleet. The 138-guest Yorktown Clipper and 102-guest Nantucket Clipper are U.S.-flagged coastal cruise ships that will join Cruise West's fleet of American-owned vessels. The new ships will sail the 2006 itineraries on the East Coast, Great Lakes, Caribbean, Alaska, Mexico and Central America that were already published by Clipper Cruise Line, but under Cruise West ownership and management. Cruise West is the largest American small-ship cruise line and will now be operating 10 vessels accommodating 70 to 138 guests on itineraries in Alaska, Mexico, Costa Rica, on the Columbia River, in California Wine Country, the South Pacific, and Japan.

Cruise West Takes Delivery of Two Boats from Demaree

Demaree Inflatable Boats Inc. (DIB) has delivered two 19-ft. Ship-to-Shore boats to Cruise West, a small-ship cruise line based in Seattle, Wash. Cruise West purchased these USCG-approved, inflatable hull, rigid deck boats to transport passengers and equipment ashore during winter and spring excursions from California to Mexico. Each boat is powered by a single Yanmar 36 hp outboard diesel motor. Cruise West already owns four DIB boats purchased in 1998. Vessels Make Pit Stop At Bay Ship

Traditionally Alaskan cruise vessels are known to make regular stopovers at Bay Ship & Yacht Co.'s Alameda, Calif. shipyard and drydock facility for routine maintenance and repairs. The yard has served as host to clients, such as Special Expedition Marine, which brought in its Sea Bird and Sea Lion vessels before reaching their winter destinations in either Mexico or the Caribbean.
