CMA CGM Ramps Up Asia-Europe Capacity Amid 'Unprecedented Demand'

One of the world's top container shipping companies said it is ramping up its capacity between Asia and Europe in response to unprecedented demand.The French-based CMA CGM Group said Monday it has accelerated the redeployment of its capacity, increasing tonnage assigned to lines between Asia and Europe by 6% for the fourth quarter of 2020 compared to the same period of 2019. Maersk Tankers Hires Bisgaard as Chief Commercial Officer

Maersk Tankers announced it has appointed Eva Birgitte Bisgaard as its Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) effective October 1.Bisgaard will joining Maersk Tankers after 19 years with the Danish Telco operator TDC, during which time she held a wide range of senior management positions. For the past three years, she was Senior Vice President of the consumer unit YouSee. Previously, she held commercial vice president positions in the company’s business-to-business divisions.At Maersk Tankers, Bisgaard will spearhead the company’s commercial engagement with partners and customers.

Toyota Intros New Lithium-ion Range

U.S. distributor of Toyota lift trucks and tow tractors Toyota Material Handling has announced the approval of a new lineup of lithium-ion batteries for use in its 3- and 4-wheel electric sit-down models.The  provider of material handling and industrial lift trucks and equipment, this introduction makes Toyota the first manufacturer in the industry to obtain UL-E and UL-EE certification for the combination of lift truck and lithium-ion batteries on a sit-down counterbalanced forklift.Toyota engineers worked directly with Underwriters Laboratory (UL) to test and certify the use of four new Navitas lithium-ion batteries in Toyota forklifts.

Damen to Convert Dredger to Dual-fuel LNG/MGO

Damen Shiprepair & Conversion has been awarded a contract to undertake the conversion of a dredger to dual-fuel capability combining LNG and MGO – a first of its kind project in Europe. The contract was awarded by Rouen-based GIE Dragages-Ports with regard to its 117m, 8500m³ trailing suction hopper dredger Samuel de Champlain, and the works will take place next year at Damen Shiprepair Dunkerque. The conversion is part of an EU-supported initiative to promote LNG propulsion in short-sea vessels operating along the European Atlantic coast.

Cruise ships, freighters or yachts require complex supply systems on board to  be able to travel long distances in the open sea. For the supply of oil and gas, for example, many kilometers of pipelines are installed above and below deck. To optimize the limited space available inside the ship, the bending radii of these pipes must be kept very tight. Therefore, shipbuilders require systems that enable the production of pipes with very small bending radii. To meet this demand, Schwarze-Robitec developed the pipe cold bending machine CNC 220.

UASC Chooses INTTRA's eVGM Service

With implementation of a new global container weight requirement less than a month away, global carrier United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has extended its partnership with ocean shipping electronic marketplace INTTRA, to use the INTTRA eVGM Service as a channel to facilitate compliance with the new rule. As of July 1, under the International Maritime Organization's Safety of Life at Sea Verified Gross Mass amendment (SOLAS VGM) as adopted, every container must have a certified weight in order to gain clearance to be loaded onto a ship.

AccessESP Installs First Access375 Systems

AccessESP, a leading provider of rigless electric submersible pump (ESP) conveyance solutions for the worldwide oil industry, has successfully installed two of its new Access375 systems on the North Slope of Alaska, the first commercial deployments of this system. Both the first and second installations of the Access375 annular flow permanent completion with 130-horsepower Access375 retrievable assemblies were completed flawlessly, with no lost time in August and October 2015, respectively, saving hours in deployment time when compared to traditional ESP systems. “We are excited to announce that the first commercial installations of our Access375 system were successfully deployed without a hitch,” said David Malone, chief executive officer, AccessESP.

Hybrid Propulsion for New Fairplay Tugs

The Fairplay fleet in Rotterdam welcomes two new members: The hybrid tractor tugs Fairplay IX and Fairplay XI, each equipped with a SCHOTTEL hybrid propulsion system including two SCHOTTEL Rudderpropellers SRP 4000 with hybrid gearboxes, two electric motors and an integrated steering control system, specialized for hybrid propulsion. Tugs are required to fulfill a variety of daily tasks, covering the full power spectrum, from stand by periods to towing operations. The installed hybrid propulsion concept enables the Fairplay tugs to operate with an optimal power output, SCHOTTEL said.

The barge, Julius, is the first project delivered from Conrad Shipyard’s newest facility, Deepwater South, in Amelia, La. Crowley Acquires Jensen Maritime

Crowley Maritime acquired Seattle-based Jensen Maritime Consultants, a naval architecture and marine engineering firm to strengthen its technical capability. Jensen, which has 19 employees, will remain an independent company with their offices in Seattle, and will continue to serve their current clientele while supporting Crowley. New Joint Venture Targets Deepwater Markets

Ray McDermott, S.A. and Keppel FELS Limited. are in the process of forming a new joint venture company, to be named FloaTEC, LLC, to provide deepwater and ultra deepwater oil and gas development solutions.
