Multiple containers have fallen into the sea from a barge off the coast between Port Canaveral, Fla., and West Palm Beach, Fla., Sunday. U.S. The U.S. flagged 136-foot Capt Latham was transiting to Puerto Rico as it tugged a 340-foot barge, Columbia Elizabeth, when crew aboard noticed several cargo containers hanging over the port side of the barge and believed more had fallen into the water while in transit, the Coast Guard said. The Capt Latham terminated its course toward Puerto Rico and diverted to Port of Palm Beach for further investigation.

The Coast Guard Cutter Decisive returned to its homeport of Pascagoula Aug. 15 after a 29-day patrol conducting law enforcement and search and rescue in the Gulf of Mexico and the Straits of Florida. The crew of the Decisive conducted commercial fishing vessel boardings while in the Gulf of Mexico and ensured vessel compliance with federal laws and regulations. During one boarding on a commercial fishing vessel, two of its crewmembers were found to be undocumented aliens. They were taken aboard Decisive and then transferred to other law enforcement personnel in South Padre Island, Texas.

The Coast Guard welcomed their newest fast response cutter to the fleet this weekend as Coast Guard Cutter Margaret Norvell was commissioned in Miami. The cutter is the first in its class to be named after a Coast Guard heroine. Norvell, a member of the U.S. Lighthouse Service, first served at the Head of Passes Light as an assistant keeper from 1891 to 1896.

The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Margaret Norvell, the fifth of the service's planned 58 Fast Response Cutters in the Sentinel Class and the first of its class to be named after a female Coast Guard heroine, arrived at her homeport Coast Guard Sector Miami, Fla., Sunday. Coast Guard Cutter Margaret Norvell is scheduled for commissioning in New Orleans on June 1, 2013. The location of the commissioning honors the history of the cutter’s namesake. This vessel is named after Coast Guard heroine Margaret Norvell who served admirably for 41 years with the U.S.
