Island Offshore took delivery of Island Victory, a new offshore installation vessel, at VARD Langsten today (Friday, February 7, 2020).Upon delivery the vessel will head straight into operation, spending a couple of weeks in the spot market, before commencing a series of contracts – in the Barents Sea and the Gulf of Mexico – securing work for the vessel potentially throughout October this year.“We experience great interest for this vessel,” said Tommy Walaunet, Managing Director, Island Offshore Management AS. “Having jobs lined up in coming months, confirms this and is highly appreciated.

Qatar Navigation Undergoes Digital Transformation

The 2016 Polar Code has its first luxury-adventure cruise adherents for the long, new ice-free seasons in the high latitudes. Likewise, many designs winning over owners and explorers target exotic Asia-Pacific destinations. Competition is fierce among “designer-shipyards” seeking to build their designs, but their creations could face fewer hurdles to construction than the designs of independents without a yard. Concepts bound for the slipway have something else in common: new davits for large numbers of water craft.

Wison Launches Buoyant Tower Solutions with Storage

Wison Offshore & Marine has developed a new Buoyant Tower solution with condensate or oil storage, adopting Wison’s proprietary Buoyant Tower technology. This floating concept provides a new economic and reliable option for the oil and gas development in the shallow to medium-depth waters. Originally invented by Ed Horton and Lyle Finn, the Buoyant Tower technology was first applied to BPZ CX-15 project offshore Peru when both Ed and Lyle worked for Horton Wison Deepwater Inc. (HWD), now renamed as Wison Offshore Technology Inc.

Seven Sailors Killed as US Navy Destroyer Collides with a Container Ship

Bodies of seven U.S. sailors recovered after the U.S. destroyer collided with with Philippine-flagged vessel CX Crystal near south of Tokyo Bay in Japan. The bodies of missing sailors were found in flooded compartments of the USS Fitzgerald, which came close to sinking after a collision with a container ship off Japan tore a gash under the warship's waterline, the U.S. Navy's Seventh Fleet commander said on Sunday. The smaller guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald suffered severe damage to its starboard side. An investigation is underway into why a massive cargo ship made a giant u-turn that caused the deadly collision with the USS Fitzgerald.

Vigor Delivers San Francisco’s New Fireboat

Vigor recently delivered an 88’ x 25’ x 14’ fireboat to the San Francisco Fire Department. The yet to be named vessel is the first fireboat to join San Francisco’s fleet in 61 years. Designed by Jensen Maritime and built at Vigor’s Seattle shipyard, the unique vessel is not only a firefighting tool but also a mobile pumping station powerhouse, the shipbuilder said. It’s capable of pumping millions of gallons of water directly from the Bay into the City’s Auxiliary Water System – a feature that will keep fire hoses flowing in the event an earthquake damages San Francisco’s water mains.

As the New Year kicks off, marine equipment OEM Dometic has unveiled two new, completely upgraded offerings. The Sea Xchange CX Watermaker, a variable capacity system that can produce between 8,000-40,000 gallons per day (GPD) of potable water, is intended for a wide range of commercial applications, including on offshore platforms, floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) facilities, workboats and military vessels. Separately, Dometic has also introduced the Dometic Titan Chiller, a 45-ton unit with revolutionary new titanium coaxial tube condenser.

Rolls-Royce Gets Island Offshore Newbuild Contract

Rolls-Royce says it has secured a contract to design and equip a large offshore support vessel for Norwegian ship owner Island Offshore. The vessel, named 'Island Victory', will be a multi-functional design with a flexible operational profile, and will be one of the largest vessels in Island Offshore's fleet. The UT 797 CX design from Rolls-Royce features a 250 ton offshore crane, Remotely Operated Vessels (ROV's) and a large moonpool, enabling the vessel to perform heavy anchor handling operations and deep subsea installation work. The bollard pull will be more than 400 tons and the vessels will be 123 meters long and encompass a deck area of 1100 sq m. Håvard Ulstein, Island Offshore CEO, said: "This will be an extremely strong workhorse with many capabilities.

Mazda Comes to Port of Baltimore

Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) became the Port of Baltimore newest auto customer after agreeing to a five -year contract with auto processor Amports that will bring approximately 65,000 vehicles a year to Maryland from its assembly plants in Japan. The vehicles will be handled at the Amports-owned Chesapeake Auto Terminal. The addition of Mazda will help to create 450 new jobs, including 160 direct jobs. “We are very happy to welcome Mazda to the Port of Baltimore,” said Transportation Secretary James T. Smith, Jr.

Horton Shallow Water Development's (SWD) CX-15 buoyant tower has been set as planned for BPZ Energy off the coast of Peru. The Buoyant Tower concept draws on the proven technology of the cellspar and the design provides multiple benefits for fields where other concepts would be problematic requiring high capital costs and expensive crane barges for installation. The design allows for oil storage if needed, can eliminate separate shallow water drilling units and provides a high level of flexibility for the operator.

GMC & Horton Wison Deepwater Confirm Joint Venture

GMC and Horton Wison Deepwater today confirmed their Joint Venture established to design and supply innovative Buoyant Towers for shallow water fields. Kevin Chell CEO of the joint venture stated “The Buoyant Tower concept draws on the proven technology of the cellspar and the design provides multiple benefits for fields where other concepts would be problematic requiring high capital costs and expensive crane barges for installation. The buoyant tower can operate in water depths up to 700 feet and can be relocated allowing small marginal plays to be exploited in a cost effective manner.
