10,000TH SeaQuantum applications Celebrated

In July, Jotun and Dalian Ocean Shipping Company (a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Ocean Shipping Company, Cosco Group), celebrated the 10,000th application of SeaQuantum, Jotun’s premium antifouling, to their 297,336-dwt tanker, Cosrich Lake. New Tanker Designs Feature Reduced Ballast Capacity

‘Clear Advantage’ tanker design series is reported to reduce ballast requirements by 40%. Dalian Shipbuilding Industry China (DSIC), Dalian Ocean Shipping Co. and Lloyd’s Register, having completed a joint industry project to develop a minimum ballast ship VLCC, have continued to develop a further detailed designs to provide a series of reduced ballast Suezmax and Aframax tanker designs. Latest Global Ocean-Going Shipbuilding Round-Up

A relatively active past week in the dry bulk newbuilding market is noted by Clarkson Hellas in their S&P Weekly Bulletin. Oldendorff Carriers have contracted two firm plus two option 208,000 DWT Newcastlemax at Hantong Shipyard, with delivery of all four vessels in 2016. Oldendorff have also declared one further option at Jiangsu New Yangzijiang and two options at Taizhou CATIC all for 208,000 DWT Newcastlemax and delivering in 2016. China Ocean Orders Four VLCC's

COSCO Group has ordered 4 Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC) from China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC). The ceremony was attended by Chairman Ma Zehua, President Li Yunpeng, Chief Financial Officer Sun Yueying, and Executive Vice President Ye Weilong of COSCO Group, as well as President Li Changyin, Executive Vice President Dong Qiang and Executive Vice President Sun Bo from CSIC. COSCO inform that managers and executives from relevant departments and subsidiaries of the two companies also attended the ceremony.

Global Vessel Newbuildings: Latest News

The past week has been another active one, reports Clarkson Hellas S+P Weekly Report, with notable levels of ordering across all sectors. In Dry and whilst understood to have been contracted earlier this year, Clients of Polaris Shipping are reported to have signed three firm 250,000 DWT VLOCs as well as a single 207,000 DWT Newcastlemax at Hyundai Heavy Industries. These will be built at their Samho facility and whilst final pricing is yet to be disclosed, delivery is expected from the third quarter of 2014 and will continue through to early 2015. Parakou Shipping were reported to have contracted four firm SDARI designed 64,000 DWT Ultramax with a further four plus four options attached at Chengxi Shipyard.

ABS Elects New Council

At the 150th Annual Meeting of the Members of ABS, three industry leaders were elected to the ABS Council. Following the Annual Meeting, the ABS Council met and elected industry leaders to both its Marine and Offshore Technical Committees. Individuals serving on the ABS Council and the Technical Committees help guide the class society in fulfilling its mission of promoting the security of life, property and the natural environment. “Classification represents the concept of self-regulation for the marine and offshore industry,” said ABS President and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki.
