Bayley Tapped as President, CEO Celebrity Cruises

Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. said that Michael Bayley has been promoted to President and CEO of Celebrity Cruises, replacing Dan Hanrahan, whose departure was recently announced. Bayley will report directly to Richard D. Fain, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. Bayley has been with Royal Caribbean for over 30 years, most recently as Executive Vice President of Operations. Prior to this role, Bayley served as Executive Vice President — International, where he oversaw the international expansion for the company. “In his role as Executive Vice President — International, Michael successfully spearheaded our aggressive expansion efforts into emerging and high-growth markets, and most recently has overseen all Operations for Royal Caribbean International,” said Fain.

Celebrity Orders New Ship

Celebrity Cruises will build a new cruise ship and launch a new class of landmark ships, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and German shipbuilder Meyer Werft announced today after signing a letter of intent. Celebrity also has an option for a second ship. The agreement is subject to customary conditions being satisfactorily met. Celebrity incorporates many features typically associated with luxury cruising in its new ship. More than 90 percent of the ship’s staterooms are outside cabins, and more than 90 percent of those rooms have balconies. The standard stateroom on this ship is much larger than the standard stateroom in the cruise industry. The average standard stateroom on Celebrity’s new ship is 215 square feet.

RCL Names Goldstein, Hanrahan President/CEO of Cruise Brands

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has named two of its top executives to president and CEO of their respective brands. Nineteen-year Royal Caribbean executive, Adam Goldstein, president of Royal Caribbean International since 2005, becomes president and CEO of that brand, and eight-year Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises veteran, Dan Hanrahan, president of Celebrity Cruises since 2005, adds CEO to his title as well. Both officers will continue to report to Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Chairman and CEO Richard D. Fain, and both changes are effective immediately.

Celebrity Cruises Starts on Solstice

Celebrity Cruises has taken its first step toward physically launching Celebrity Solstice in Fall 2008. The line's President Dan Hanrahan ceremoniously pressed the start button for the plasma cutter at shipbuilder Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, creating the ship's first steel plate. Accompanying Hanrahan were Celebrity's Executive Vice President Maritime & Newbuilding Harri Kulovaara, Celebrity Solstice Project Manager Jarmo Laakso, and Meyer Werft's Managing Director Bernard Meyer, Lambert Kruse and Project Manager Uwe Wulf.

Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas to Sail from LA

Royal Caribbean International's Vision of the Seas will arrive in Los Angeles on September 28 to offer seven-night Mexican Riviera itineraries. Vision will be the cruise line's second ship in the market, joining Monarch of the Seas, which offers year-round, three- and four-night Baja Mexico cruises. "We are very excited to offer two great cruise vacation options - week-long vacations on Vision of the Seas and shorter getaways aboard Monarch of the Seas - from a port that is so convenient for many travelers from the western United States," said Dan Hanrahan, senior vice president, Marketing and Sales, for Royal Caribbean International. At 78,491 tons, Vision of the Seas is 915 ft. long and holds 2,000 guests double occupancy.
