Stena Line took ownership of its newest ferry Stena Estrid following a handover ceremony at the AVIC Weihai Shipyard in north-western China. Stena Estrid is the first of five next generation Stena Line RoPax vessels that are currently being constructed. Stena Estrid will now embark on a six-week journey to its new home on the Irish Sea, where it will begin service on the Dublin to Holyhead route in January 2020.A further two of the new ferries are also destined for the Irish Sea with Stena Edda expected to commence operations from Belfast to Liverpool next spring…

The UK Chamber of Shipping's CEO Guy Platten and its president Dr Grahaeme Henderson were among a delegation of international shipowners and major figures from the shipping industry that visited 10 Downing Street on Monday as part of London International Shipping Week 2017. MAN Diesel & Turbo recently signed a contract with Stena Line to provide its online service to two vessels. The Stena Hollandica and Stena Britannica are both conventional passenger-and-vehicle superferries that sail the daily route between the Hook of Holland and Harwich and are each powered by 4 × MAN 48/60CR engines. Dan Sten Olsson, CEO and owner of the Stena Sphere, and Bjarne Koitrand, Stena Line Technical Director, visited Augsburg, Germany to meet MAN Diesel & Turbo’s Dr Uwe Lauber, CEO, and Wayne Jones, Chief Sales Officer and agree the new deal.

The chemical and product tanker Stena Imperative was yesterday named at China Merchants Wharf in Hong Kong. The vessel, an IMOIIMAX MR tanker, is wholly owned by Stena Bulk and was delivered a few days ago from the Chinese shipyard CSSC Offshore & Marine Engineering (CSSC OME*) in Guangzhou. The traditional naming ceremony took place in a rainy Hong Kong attended by representatives of corporate management, the owner, customers, partners and shipyard representatives from all over the world. The happy and proud godmother is Kim Olsson, wife of Dan Sten Olsson’s son William.

Stena donates tanker model to the Musée National de la Marine in Paris, highlighting safe maritime practices and clean oceans. A ceremony was held Friday evening at the prestigious national maritime museum, Musée National de la Marine in Paris, marking Stena’s donation of a model of the Stena Paris P-MAX tanker. The P-MAX tanker concept was developed in the early 2000s in collaboration with the French energy company Total. The chairman of Swedish international shipping operator Stena Line AB told press he can imagine selling the loss-making ferry group. However, said Dan Sten Olsson, "it has to be a serious buyer who is not just out to shop up the company." Stena Line - which also operates the English Channel with British shipping operator P&O under the P&O Stena Line company - posted a loss after financial items of $57.15 million for 1999. The group has cut costs to meet changes following the end of tax-free shopping in Europe. Olsson said he expected the loss-making group to break even in 2001. He said there were several buyers who may be interested in the Swedish group, one of the world's largest shipping operators.
