M/V SeaStreak Liberty Offers New Route
SeaStreak America will begin offering Central Jersey commuters who travel into Manhattan a new and efficient mode of transportation. The "M/V SeaStreak Liberty" will operate from the new South Amboy Ferry Landing, 135 Lower Main Street, on the city's redeveloped waterfront. Beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, February 4, 2002, the SeaStreak Liberty will provide five weekday departures from South Amboy. The 82-ft. high-speed catamaran carries 300 passengers to Pier 11 (Wall Street) and East 34th Street in New York City. SeaStreak's general manager David Stafford said, "SeaStreak is pleased to see this important and exciting project come to fruition.
Northrop Grumman and ACB Partner for New Concept
Grumman Corporation in partnership with Aluminum Chambered Boats, Inc. (ACB), "splashed" into Bellingham Bay in Washington recently, initiating its in-water evaluation. The Riverine experimental boat -- named Joint Multimission Expeditionary Craft -- integrates Northrop Grumman's leading-edge navigation, surveillance, network and command and control systems into an innovative, tactical-class hull form designed and built by ACB. ACB's design is 41 ft. draft of only 28 inches. has a top speed of 48 miles per hour. streams. warfare mission systems for the boat. station functions. and maneuver warfare. enable distributed and networked operations. security. and Tactical Systems for Northrop Grumman. at the Multi-agency Craft Conference, June 5-7 in Little Creek, Va.

While the fast ferries of SeaStreak were not the first to provide high-speed commuter service to the Highlands region of New Jersey, they were the first to be set-up by a Bermudan company. "Sea Container, Ltd., operates in three main areas," said SeaStreak's General Manager, David Stafford "marine container leasing, various leisure-bound operations, and passenger transport." SeaStreak falls into the third group, one of several comparable operations the parent company runs worldwide. They have fast ferry operations in the English Channel (Hoverspeed, Ltd.), fast and conventional ferry operations in the Irish and Baltic Seas (Man Steam Packet Co. and Silja Line respectively, the latter 50% owned). Sea Container also has railroad interests in the U.K. and Peru, among others.
