Oceaneering Acquires Port Vision Parent, AIRSIS

Oceaneering International, Inc. says it has acquired AIRSIS Inc., a provider of remote asset management software services. AIRSIS’ signature service, PortVision®, provides web-based location reporting on commercial vessels. AIRSIS’ revenue for 2013 was approximately $7 million, and its future financial results will be included in Oceaneering’s Subsea Projects segment. Oceaneering explains that this acquisition is expected to enhance its current asset tracking service offered on offshore drilling rigs and vessels engaged in subsea activities. Asset tracking information is utilized by customers to establish a common operating picture, which improves operational efficiency and enables incident and emergency response collaboration and reporting.

Congress Maritime Safety Hearing: PortVision CEO Testifies

US Hearing to Focus on New Ocean Technologies

The Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, chaired by Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.), will hold a hearing next week to examine the proliferation of new ocean technologies, how such technologies could improve government performance, and any impediments that exist in the use of such technologies. The federal government is responsible for recording, understanding, monitoring and protecting the oceans in the Exclusive Economic Zones which surround United States and territories out to 200 miles, and even in areas of the ocean beyond those littoral zones. Understanding and monitoring both the physical characteristics of these areas and how these areas are being used is vital to our national defense…

MarineNews spoke with Dean Rosenberg, CEO of PortVision, about the company’s role in the coordination of the Deepwater Horizon spill response in the Gulf of Mexico. PortVision is a web-based service that uses data from the Automated Identification System (AIS), mandated by the IMO and the U.S. Coast Guard, to provide shore-side users with real-time vessel tracking as well as historical reporting. “The main purpose for AIS, why it was mandated, is for collision avoidance,” Rosenberg said.

PortVision Vessel-Tracking for Gulf Cleanup Ops

PortVision, provider of business intelligence solutions for the maritime industry, announced that BP has used the company’s PortVision vessel-tracking service and PV-OnBoard battery-operated satellite trackers to enhance and accelerate response and restoration operations related to the April 20, 2010, Deepwater Horizon incident. “The PortVision service has significantly improved how we have managed vessel activity related to the Gulf response and restoration operation,” said Scott Neuhauser, Deputy Branch Director for Plaquemines Parish with BP. “We have worked closely with BP and the Unified Command operations team in support of real-time vessel-tracking activities related to the Gulf incident response and restoration effort,” said Dean Rosenberg, chief executive officer.
