Damen Working on New Vessel Class to Support Growing Floating Wind Industry

Dutch firm Damen Shipyards said Tuesday it was working to develop a new class of vessel that will be capable of supporting the growing floating wind industry.Damen has cited forecasts which indicate that by 2050 over 200GW or around 13,500 units of new floating offshore wind turbines will be in operation, and these turbines will be giant, and placed in deeper water than conventional bottom-fixed turbines, requiring chains and anchors of unprecedented sizes. Elcome Completes Satcom Switchover for LNG Tanker Fleet

Elcome International said it has completed a satellite communications retrofit program for a major fleet of liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers providing broadband data and voice services. “Our team decommissioned the existing VSAT systems and installed new SAILOR 900 antennas and below-deck systems on 40 ships within four months. Most of the installations were performed at sea, and the others were made at ports in eight different countries,” said Jimmy Grewal, executive director of Dubai-based Elcome International.

USNS Maury Completes Acceptance Trials

USNS Maury (T-AGS 66) completed Acceptance Trials, November 6, following a week of extensive ship tests and underway events, included testing of major propulsion, auxiliary, damage control and deck systems. Designed to perform acoustic, biological, physical, and geophysical surveys, T-AGS 66 will provide the U.S. military with essential information on the ocean environment. The vessel is 353 feet in length, with an overall beam of 58 feet. USNS Maury is 24 feet longer than the previous T-AGS design, which accommodates a moon pool for deployment and retrieval of autonomous underwater vehicles. T-AGS 66 is named in honor of Cmdr. Atlantic Offshore Safety Vessel Launched in Spain

Zamakona Yards Group launch the 'Ocean Ospry' from it Pasajes shipyard in northern Spain; the first of three such Field Support Vessels (FSV) ordered by Norway's Atlantic Offshore AS. The ship’s main mission will be to provide immediate aid to emergency situations on oil rigs, being specially adapted to the harsh conditions of the North Sea. There, the vessel will start operations for oil company Shell in the beginning of 2014. The Ocean Osprey is a Field Support Vessel (FSV) of HY820 Havyard design.

U.S. Fab Deliver Unique Maintenance and Mooring Barge

U.S. Fab, a Vigor Industrial company, has delivered the purpose-built vessel to Washington’s King County for the use of its passenger ferry fleet. The 140’x40’x7’6” barge features moorage for up to four vessels and two steel structures, one that houses a well-equipped maintenance workshop and the other a two-story office and crew quarters. “This was an interesting project that required teams to integrate two different building classification standards while maintaining optimal cost efficiencies,” explained Bryan Nichols, Sales and Marketing Manager for Vigor Industrial.
