Savannah Port to Build Mega Ship Hub

The Port of Savannah will soon be able to unload six 14,000 TEU vessels at the same time. The plan, which is called “Big Berth, Big Ship”, effectively doubles the port’s capacity to handle mega-boxships. Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) Executive Director Griff Lynch unveiled the new program that will allow the Port of Savannah to simultaneously handle six 14,000 TEU vessels by 2024, a press release said.“No other single container terminal in North America has the ability to expand berth capacity at this rate,” said Lynch. Currently, Savannah’s Garden City Terminal is equipped to handle two of these vessels and by April of this year that number will increase to three.Port of Savannah had just last week achieved the busiest month ever in its history…

Cuba's Mariel Port Preparing for Mega Ships

Kalmar to Send Five RTG Cranes to DCT Gdansk Terminal

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed a deal with Deepwater Container Terminal (DCT) Gdansk to supply a total of five electrically powered rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) with extensive customisation. The order, which also includes the supply of a spare parts package for the machines, was booked in Cargotec's 2018 first quarter order intake and delivery is scheduled to take place in early 2019. DCT Gdansk is Poland's largest and fastest growing container facility, and the only deep-water terminal in the Baltic Sea region with direct ocean vessel calls from the Far East. The terminal has an annual throughput capacity of 3 million TEUs and its operating area covers 74 hectares.

EUROGATE Net Profit Up 13%

EUROGATE can look back on a good financial year, 2015. Despite difficult market conditions the European terminal operators Group increased its net profit by 13.4 percent to EUR 73.5 million (prior year EUR 64.9 million). Container handling at the German EUROGATE locations grew faster than the market. In Bremerhaven, Wilhelmshaven and Hamburg EUROGATE 2015 hit with 8.2 million standard containers (TEU) 1.5 percent more boxes in order as 2014. The entire North Range ports recorded in the same period dropped by 1.6 percent. The total amount of the turned-up in the European group_container totaled 14.5 million TEU two percent on the previous year and corresponded to the market development: The total throughput of European ports 2015 was also increased by two percent rückläufig1.

APM Terminals Acquires Reefer Terminal S.p.A.

APM Terminals and GF Group are pleased to announce the acquisition of 100% of Reefer Terminal S.p.A. by APM Terminals has been completed today. Terms and price were not disclosed. Reefer Terminal, the largest refrigerated terminal in the Mediterranean for more than thirty years handling 600,000 pallets per year, is also a world-class terminal for the handling of containers (275,000 TEU, 510 reefer plugs, 14.5 meter depth and 465 meter of quay) and general cargo. APM Terminals has acquired the Vado Ligure Reefer Terminal as part of the port master plan to create new supply chains to markets in Northern Italy, Southern France, Switzerland and Bavaria.

LDD Awarded Liverpool 2 Terminal Work

Large Diameter Drilling (LDD), an Acteon company, has won a contract to supply drilling equipment and personnel for the delivery of foundation installation services at Liverpool 2, the new deepwater container terminal for the U.K. port. Liebherr Confirms Repeat Crane Orders

Competitiveness of Polish Container Ports

Polish consumers could save money and the Polish Government earn billions of zloty in extra import duties if the bulk of container traffic from the Far East was directed through Polish ports rather than through German and Benelux ports, according to Boris Wenzel, CEO of the Deepwater Container Terminal in Gdansk. A switch to Gdansk would also create thousands of new jobs in the Tri-city and reduce the high Co2 emissions associated with trucking and railing containers to Poland from ports like Rotterdam and Hamburg, believes Mr. Wenzel. “Over the past decade Hamburg and Rotterdam have taken advantage of Poland’s rapid economic growth to develop into this country’s largest container gateways“ says Mr. Wenzel.

Second Birthday of DCT Gdansk Terminal

On October 1, 2007 the construction of Deepwater Container Terminal Gdansk was completed and the terminal officially opened. DCT Gdansk is the newest and most modern container terminal in the Baltic region. After two years of operational activity, the terminal developed cooperation with many customers among freight forwarders, shipping lines, rail operators and transport companies. The terminal’s turnover is continues to increase and DCT Gdansk handled over 100 thousand TEU-s in the first operational year. Despite the economic crisis, within the first half of 2009, DCT had handled more than in the whole of 2008. The trust and cooperation DCT enjoys from various customers is a confirmation of the unique potential of DCT Gdansk terminal.

APL Alexandrite First Call, Cai Mep Port

The ship APL Alexandrite became the first linehaul container vessel to call at the Saigon Port-PSA (SP-PSA) deepwater container terminal located on the Cai Mep river in Ba Ria Vung Tau Province in southern Vietnam. The 3,821 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) vessel was undertaking a trial voyage ahead of the beginning on 4 June of the industry’s first direct container shipping service linking Vietnam and the West Coast of North America. APL, Direct Vietnam to North America Service

Global shipping leader APL announced the launch of a new weekly direct container shipping service linking Vietnam and the West Coast of North America. Previously, Vietnam’s exporters have had to rely on small feeder vessels to connect with larger ships to gain access to the world’s major consuming markets. The first departure of the APL-operated service on 4 June will directly link Vietnam’s exporters to the Transpacific routes, which are among the world’s largest and most dynamic trade lanes. “This is the beginning of a new era for trade with Vietnam and marks its increased importance as a manufacturing and export centre,” said Eng Aik Meng, President of APL. In early 2007, APL co-authored research examining Vietnam’s transportation and logistics environment.

DCT Gdansk Celebrates First Year

On October 1, 2008, the Polish deepwater container terminal DCT Gdansk celebrated its first birthday with a large reception party, attended by close to 300 people. Amongst invited guests were representatives of freight forwarders, shipping lines and rail operators working with the terminal, as well as local authorities with the Mayor of Gdansk and the Chairman of the . Maersk Chooses DCT Gdansk

Maersk Line announced that with effect from December 1, it will switch its Polish operations from BCT in to the new deepwater container terminal DCT Gdansk. Maersk Line said: “After many years of good cooperation with BCT Gdynia, the time has come to explore new possibilities with DCT Gdansk, allowing Maersk Line to continue to offer its customers a reliable product while maintaining a high level of efficiency  and  cost  effectiveness.  “By  moving  to  DCT  we  have  secured  the  possibility  for  our customers to continue to grow along with Maersk Line in Poland. Through an open dialogue we will continue to engage our customers in determining the optimal terms of our services  in order to  cater  for our future growth and cooperation.”

Containerships Switches to DCT Gdansk

The Finnish shipping company Containerships is to switch its Polish calls to the new DCT Gdansk deepwater container terminal with effect from 31 January 2008. Initially, two weekly services are involved, one linking Gdansk with St Petersburg and Sweden/Finland and Teesport. The rotation of one service is DCT Gdansk - Södertälje - St Petersburg – Helsinki – Aarhus – DCT Gdansk while the other is DCT Gdansk – Teesport – DCT Gdansk.

DCT Gdansk celebrates Phase 1 completion

The completion of the first phase of development of Poland’s new deepwater container terminal, DCT Gdansk, was celebrated yesterday with a reception onboard the cruise vessel Lady Assa. DCT Gdansk management and directors were joined by public, city and port officials, representatives from the international shipping community, and civil engineers involved in the construction process as the vessel sailed from her berth at Motlawa in Gdansk’s ‘old town’ to DCT Gdansk’s 650m of completed quay. With Phase One of the terminal development up and running, DCT Gdansk recently announced weekly calls by leading global container line CMA CGM and feeder specialist Team Lines, while Lithuania-based feeder operator ISN has also initiated a weekly call between DCT Gdansk and Kaliningrad.
