Saab Bags $1 bln Order for Swedish Submarines

The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has awarded contracts worth Skr8.6bn ($1.03bn) to Saab AB for the construction of two new Type A26 submarines and a mid-life upgrade for two Gotland-class submarines. Work on the two A26s is to be completed by 2024. Type A26 submarines are nearly 207 feet in length, 21 feet in the beam and have an endurance of 45 days or 18 days underwater. They have a test depth of about 658 feet. This new development will see Saab construct, verify, and deliver two new Type A26 submarines for the Swedish Navy for a total order value of SEK7.6bn ($912.84m). 'Extreme stealth is at the heart of the Kockums A26 submarine.

Saab to Overhaul Submarine HMS Halland

Defence and security company Saab has received an order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) to overhaul the submarine HMS Halland. The order covers the period 2014-2015 and is valued at MSEK 130. The order is part of the letter of intent regarding the Swedish armed forces' underwater capability, which was announced on 9 June 2014. The overhaul includes all the necessary measures to ensure the submarine's operational availability. According to HMS Halland's standard maintenance plan, this type of overhaul is conducted every six years. One provision of the contract is to define future needs for maintenance, which could result in additional work being contracted separately during the period.

Saab Completes Acquisition of TKMS (Kockums)

Defence and security company Saab's acquisition of the Swedish shipyard Thyssen Krupp Marine Systems (TKMS, formerly Kockums) has now been completed. The acquisition strengthens Saab's position as a comprehensive supplier of naval military systems. The required decisions and approvals for Saab's acquisition of TKMS have now been granted. The company will become a business unit within Saab's business area Security and Defence Solutions. The business unit is named Saab Kockums. Saab expects operations will continue to be carried out primarily in Malmö, Karlskrona and Muskö. In June, Saab and FMV signed a letter of intent regarding the Swedish armed forces' underwater capabilities.

Saab Acquires ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems AB

Defence and security company Saab has today entered into an agreement with ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions AG regarding the acquisition of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems AB (TKMS AB, formerly Kockums). The purchase price is MSEK 340. This acquisition is in line with Saab’s ambition to increase its capabilities in the naval domain. This move further strengthens Saab’s status as a comprehensive supplier of military systems. In April 2014, Saab and ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions AG signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding regarding the acquisition of the Swedish shipyard TKMS AB with operations based in Karlskrona, Malmö and Muskö, Sweden. The parties have now agreed that Saab will acquire TKMS AB. The purchase price is MSEK 340.

Saab Acquires Swedish Shipyard TKMS AB

Defence and security company Saab says it has entered into an agreement with ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions AG regarding the acquisition of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems AB (TKMS AB, formerly Kockums). The purchase price is MSEK 340. Saab explains that the acquisition is in line with its ambition to increase its capabilities in the naval domain, and further strengthens Saab’s status as a comprehensive supplier of military systems. Strengthening Of Van Oord's Position In The UK

Van Oord has reached an agreement in principle on the acquisition of UK specialist marine civil contractor J.T. Mackley & Co Ltd. This acquisition will strengthen Van Oord's leading position on the UK flood defence and coastal construction market. J.T. Mackley & Co. Ltd will continue its business under its own name and will continue to be run by the existing management and staff. The company provides all round engineering, construction, maintenance and project delivery services in the United Kingdom and serves clients such as water, coastal, marine, commercial and industrial companies. Van Oord and J.T. Mackley & Co. Ltd have been working together for more than a decade.

Kraken Awarded AquaPix Sonar Contract

Kraken Sonar Systems Inc., a  marine technology company, has announced  that it has been awarded a contract for an AquaPix Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Sonar system by Australia’s Defence Science and Technology Organization (DSTO). DSTO is the Australian government’s lead agency charged with applying science and technology to protect and defend Australia and its national interests. DSTO delivers expert, impartial advice and innovative defence solutions to agencies such as the Royal Australian Navy. Kraken’s AquaPix  Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Sonar (InSAS) system provides seabed images with unprecedented image resolution and detail.

Thai Navy Contracts Saab to Upgrade Carrier Electronics

The contract involve upgrading the aircraft carrier with the latest generation of command and control system, 9LV Mk4. Saab will also supply data-link equipment to the ship, which will allow communication between the ship and the Royal Thai Air Force’s Gripen fighter aircraft and the airborne radar system Erieye, carried by the Saab 340 AEW. “Saab will further strengthen its position as supplier to the Royal Thai Navy through the upgrade of the command and control system on the Navy's flagship.
