Tribute to the Seventh Coast Guard District

The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education and welfare of all Coast Guard members and their families, announced today that its annual Tribute to the Seventh Coast Guard District will be held at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Wednesday, November 16, 2016. At the event, the Foundation will recognize Coast Guard Sector San Juan with the Coast Guard Foundation Award and will also recognize Joseph E. Farrell, Jr., president and CEO of Resolve Marine Group, for his support of the Coast Guard Foundation. Vice Admiral Karl Schultz, Commander of the Atlantic Area will be the keynote speaker and Reggie Rivers will emcee the event.

Washington State Ferries Adds Extra Trips

Friday’s preseason game against the Denver Broncos marks the start of football fans’ ferry travel season. To manage the influx of people, Washington State Ferries will provide additional ferry sailings leaving Bremerton at 10:15 p.m. and leaving Seattle at 11:30 p.m. Each home game, thousands of fans take ferries on their way to CenturyLink Field. The 12th Man isn’t alone in making for busy ferries this weekend: Hempfest and a Sounders game will also to add to rider counts. Join WSF and the U.S. Coast Guard at Colman Dock Thursday, Aug. 13, to learn how they ensure fans and commuters get where they are going safely and on time during large events. Taking Inland Waterways To the Mainstream

It takes nonstop work to maintain America’s position in today’s global economy. Every day we compete against strong international rivals for demanding foreign and domestic customers. Thankfully, the American economy has a large-scale, crucial asset that gives us an edge on the rest of the world: over 28,000 miles of inland river and coastal waterways with consistent navigation at suitable depths (9 feet during 9 months of the year) – more any other nation on earth. Although we have the world’s greatest industrially-useful waterway network, we are barely using its full capacity.

Will an Unsteady Ship Affect Superbowl XLVIII?

With the Superbowl around the corner, unusual maritime ties may play a role in the big game between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks. As part of the press events leading up to Superbowl XLVIII, the Broncos held press conferences Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday aboard a 210-foot luxury cruise liner docked in the Hudson River outside the team’s hotel in Jersey City, N.J. On Wednesday and Thursday, in particular, the ship, Cornucopia Majesty, was very unsteady as it rocked from its moorings and raised some reports of seasickness while players and coaches conducted interviews.
