China Celebrates National Maritime Day
China celebrated its 19th National Maritime Day on July 11, with celebrations taking place in museums and schools along with a range of technical conferences.The Ministry of Transport released the 2022 China Shipping Development Report which showed that container throughput at ports increased by 4.7% and the volume of rail-water multi-modal transport routes increased by 16% year-on-year.China Daily reports Vice-Transport Minister Fu Xuyin saying: âBy the end of last year, the Chinese fleet reached a carrying capacity of 370 million deadweight tonsâŚ
China to Build its First Luxury Cruise Ship
Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, subsidiary China CSSC Holdings Ltd is about to establish a cruise liner development company in Shanghai along with Guangzhou Shipyard International Co Ltd and two ship design institutes, says a report in China Post. The new firm will undertake research, design and development of cruise liners and related facilities. The joint venture will be registered in China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone in Pudong New Area, the 21st Century Business Herald reported. Construction of the first cruise ship will kick off in 2017, and will be delivered by 2021, according to Chen Gang, vice-president of Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding. Waigaoqiao indicated last year that the ship would be the first in a $4 billion joint venture between Carnival, China Investment Corporation and CSSC.
Chinese Leaders Visit Yangzijiang Shipyard
Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Holdings Limited announced that yesterday was a âmomentousâ for the group, as senior Chinese officials paid visit to Yangzijiangâs shipyard and the groupâs chairman received the Outstanding Entrepreneur Award by the Chinese Enterprises Association. On the morning of June 18, Vice-premier of Chinaâs state council, Ma Kai, and Minister of Industry and Information Technology Miao Wei visited the Groupâs Jiangsu New Yangzi yard together with national departments, provincial and municipal leaders.
Arntzen Joins World Maritime Day Risk Management Panel
Clay Maitland, Chairman of the North American Marine Environment Protection Association, announced that Morten Arntzen will moderate the Risk Management panel at this yearâs North American World Maritime Day Observance being held on October 30th aboard the Hornblower Infinity in New York. This annual event explores this yearâs World Maritime Day theme of Sustainability and will include a risk management roundtable featuring industry leaders such as Peter Evensen of Teekay, Phillip Shapiro of Liberty MaritimeâŚ
UNCTAD Trade and Development Report
UNCTAD Trade and Development Report The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) released its Trade and Development Report, 2003. Among other things, the report notes that the âfight against terrorismâ following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 resulted in tightened administrative and security procedures and inspection of shipments at ports that slowed movement of goods and people.
