ABB's Power, Propulsion, and Automation for Samskip's Hydrogen-powered Container Ships

ABB has won a contract to deliver a power, propulsion, and automation system for two new-built short-sea container ships for Rotterdam-based global logistics company Samskip Group.According to ABB, the vessels will be among the world’s first of their kind to use hydrogen as a fuel. Financial details of the contract were not disclosed. Built by India-based Cochin Shipyard, the 135-meter ships are due for delivery in Q3 and Q4 of 2025, respectively. Both vessels will be operating between Oslo Fjord and Rotterdam, a distance of approximately 700 nautical miles.

ABB Enhances Safety of Sovcomflot’s Arctic Fleet

ABB has won a contract to supply ABB Ability Remote Diagnostic Systems for Marine to eleven Sovcomflot vessels operating in the Arctic and Russia’s Far East, helping optimize safety and performance through 24/7 remote support.Sovcomflot’s vessels will be among over 1,000 ships connected to ABB Ability Collaborative Operation Centers worldwide. From here, ABB experts monitor operational shipboard systems, coordinate remote equipment diagnostics and offer predictive maintenance services – 24/7. This can be especially crucial for vessels operating in remote areas.

LR classed Alexandros and Aristotelis are the first of five new 5,000 teu new ships, all to be delivered from HHI Gunsan by June 2013, that sees Capital expand its operations into the container sector. Britain Releases Millennium Guide, Rates Worldwide Y2K Preparedness

Britain unveiled the first installment of its global guide to the millennium Sept. 14, setting out how far 50 countries have gone towards overcoming the Year 2000 problem and warning travelers and businesses about potential blackspots. The report released on a Foreign Office website (www.fco.gov.uk) outlines preparations for millennium compliance in key areas including transport, the economy, health, water, energy and communications.
