PPG has introduced PSX 800 and PSX 805 coatings for steel and metal surfaces, two next-generation products formulated with greater flexibility and hiding performance than competing polysiloxane coatings. According to PPG, the two new products feature improved flexibility, which enables them to withstand the cracking under stress commonly associated with difficult steel, tank exterior and building exterior applications. PSX 805 coating adds a durable satin-sheen finish that masks imperfections on metal surfaces.

NSF Certification for PPG's Products, Coating Systems

PPG Industries’ protective and marine coatings (PMC) business announced that four individual coatings and primers and two combined coating-and-primer systems have been certified by NSF International for water-tank applications. AMERCOAT 133/844 pit-filler is a hand-applied coating designed to fill deep holes in pitted steel surfaces with a single pass. It features a 100-percent solids formulation and emits almost zero volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and it trowels easily to a smooth finish. SIGMAWELD 199 primer is a weldable preconstruction primer that provides up to 12 months of corrosion protection during construction and offers extended recoatability thereafter.

PPG Launches High-temperature Coating

PPG Industries’ protective and marine coatings (PMC) business has launched PPG HI-TEMP 222G high-temperature coating that protects substrates from corrosion under insulation (CUI) and can be applied directly to hot surfaces up to 400 F. PPG HI-TEMP 222G coating can be applied in environments such as power plants, petrochemical facilities, refineries and offshore rigs. CUI is a significant problem facing these facilities, costing them millions of dollars yearly in direct damage to equipment and facility shutdowns that halt production. Independent studies have shown that between 40 and 60 percent of all pipe maintenance costs directly result from CUI.

PPG PMC Terminates Sales Agreement in Mexico

PPG Industries’ protective and marine coatings (PMC) business announced that it has terminated its licensee agreement with Comex Group in Mexico and that customers in that country can now order AMERCOAT brand products directly from PPG. AMERLOCK surface-tolerant epoxies protect steel and concrete structures such as offshore platforms, petroleum processing plants, storage facilities and marine structures in severe environments. Available in a wide range of colors and low-VOC (volatile organic compound) formulations, Amerlock epoxies are engineered to prevent film pinholing and solvent entrapment at the substrate/coating interface, a common site of coatings failure with conventional epoxies and lower-solids systems.
